There are some vacancies being put up in our duty office. 3 drivers one 30hr walking contract , I am currently on a 30hr contract fixed term it has been renewed once and is due to expire/renew in about 6 weeks. Have put in my cv and a letter stating my interest in these positions and have been informed by my manger that I will probably not get a chance as it is the union policy that seniority takes preference , but should not need to worry about my contract as this will roll over and he has no problems with me.
Can some one please explain the correct procedure and protocol??.

Re: internal vacancy's
Seniority order based on applicants, if a core skills duty.
'skills based' if a specialist post, as per way forward agreement 2000 (in my mc we just use seniority for everything)

Re: internal vacancy's
it is a VERY slow climb up the ladder for this reason. When there is a vacancy for a good job the guys who ALREADY have their own job apply and get the job because of their seniority. Then their job becomes vacant and is advertised some time later and of course the guys further down the ladder apply for it and so on and so on.
