Yeah but then thats making out the lad who mentioned me, is lying. And I'm not making anyone out to be a liar.

Basically what I recall being said was something along the lines of someone asking how could she be transferred if she didn't want one? So I said the dom or area boss must have signed it off - as in signed the transfer, not forged her signature on it! At least thats the way I remember it

I would go with that TBH - You are not dropping someone in it or making them out to be stupid, they just misinterpreted your speculation.

He thought you meant DOM signed a transfer request but your theory was that the person could not be transferred either at their own request or as a result of an investigation, without approval from someone in a Senior position.

Second-hand tittle-tattle has no relevance to them, and you should not even give them the opportunity to force you to defend yourself on the basis of conjecture (...about conjecture). I can understand why you're asking the question but it's not really of any relevance, is it? What you say among workmates is not irrelevant to work - gross misconduct need not occur within the work day - but speculation and gossip bandied between friends, and then repeated second- and third-hand, is not a basis for anybody to be having a 'discussion' (or otherwise) with you.

YOU: I have absolutely no idea what you are talking about. Can you provide me with the time of day, the date, and the location of when and where these alleged remarks I'm alleged to have made were made?
DOM: errr...
YOU: Does the person alleging I made these remarks have a corroborating witness, whose version of events matches exactly the aforesaid time of day, the date, and the location of when and where these alleged remarks I'm alleged to have made were made ?
DOM: errr... (and even if the answer to that is 'yes')
YOU: You can't seriously or reasonably expect me to memorise every fragment of every conversation I have each day, just in case something crops up later. I still have absolutely no idea what you are talking about.

You : Nope, not me.
Dom : Y said you did.
You : Well, I didn't.
Dom : So you're saying that Y is a liar?
You : No, I'm saying that he must have misheard or misinterpreted something I said.
Dom : What did you say?
You : I can't remember. Can I go now I have a lot of work to do?
