Council picked them up and reported back to my office.
Somebody please tell me there is a glimmer of hope for
me to retain my job.
I'm not on any stage warnings and it's the first stupid
thing i've done wrong in 6 years service.

How many D2D are we talking about?

Unless your DO rep is very experienced, you need to talk to an Area Rep who will give you the best advice. They will know if they can save your ass.
You may want to consider resigning before getting sacked.

Yeah, I was given that option of resigning, but thought it
best to speak with my rep before I made any rash decisions.

You could always go down the sob story root... financial pressure etc. You could get off with a 2 year serious. But i think you know your heading for the bullet.

Sorry but without knowing the particulars of your case I can only be brutally honest. Unless you have massive mitigating circumstances then not only have you done a stupid act, you have actually committed a crime under the Postal Act 2000. Intentional Delay or Destruction of Mail/Packets.

Again unless you have a very good ADR, IR and mitigating circumstances then the chances of being kept on are slim to none. My personal advice, without knowing your particular circumstances, and based only on what you have posted would be to accept the resignation offer.

BTW stage warnings are for sickness and have no bearing on disciplinary purposes if any. If they do there are only superficial.

You may take Sexy Legs advice if you wish, however please remember that if you do decide to fight the suspension and any future dismissal Royal Mail will only have to prove that their course of action was reasonable given the circumstances. RM do not have to prove that you committed the act, thats up to a court of law not a manager or an Employment Tribunal. Failure to recognise this could lead to disappointment.

Was it a handful or a whole batch for the walk. If it was a handful, you can say they were surplus and admit you were stupid for disposing of them incorrectly.
If it was a batch, then you are in trouble, might as well have been a pile of letters. The question then is, why would you do that? What are your reasons? Are any of them mitigating?

Don't take advice from people who say they can't prove anything.
Don't hold out too much hope.
