Where do temps come in the pecking order for getting docket compared to permanent staff?
Is it based purely on aggregate or do perms get seniority?

Re: Temps getting docket
depends.
are they temporary (long term) with a view to being made substantive [same opportunities as others]
or
temp - casual (to cover the summer leave period) [limited opportunities] bottom of the list, but they can't be completely excluded
the anomaly is - for LTFT staff - it's not really "overtime", it's actually extra hours (non enhanced rates)
the other problem being, when these "overtime" [hours] are "needed", more often thatn not, it will suit management to get the LTFT staff to do it for that very reason - non enhanced rates = cheaper!!
don't want to mention any names, but, robbing peter to pay paul (and john!?)

I may be wrong but as far as I am aware there is no national position on docket/overtime (setting aside SA) so it would depend on your local arrangements. However, those local arrangements cannot ignore the law of the land, and in this case it may be considered discriminatory or "unfair" if Permanent Staff were considered for overtime before temporary staff IF that was the only consideration given when dishing out overtime.

Talking Delivery: From a Management point of view, which lets face it is the only one they use, it makes more sense to give PT Staff any available OT. They don't get any enhanced payrate until they've done 40 hrs! If you're on 40 hrs and they give it to you you're Immediately into the "1st 10 hrs rate".
IMO it also has to be the right Moral choice in this case. How can we justify some FT Staff clocking up 20 hrs OT per week (which does happen) and then restrict PT staff to their 22.5 hr contracts with an OT Ban just because the Office Budget is tight?
By "Temps" I don't know if you're referring to what we used to call "Casuals" or do you mean Temp 3 month rolling contracts? I think these guys have got a s**t enough deal from RM without begrudging them a bit of OT.

Re: Temps getting docket
Got to agree with that - we have staff on rolling contracts who struggle to make any financial plans because of the insecurity of their position - I think they should be considered equally for any overtime. Don't forget also that their wages drop like a stone if they take sick or annual leave.Dorset Plodder wrote:Talking Delivery: From a Management point of view, which lets face it is the only one they use, it makes more sense to give PT Staff any available OT. Re: Temps getting docket
Due to the introduction of delivery supplement into LTFT overtime up to 40hrs the difference between the two overtime rates is £9.51(LTFT) and £9.54(1st10hrs) based on a 40hr week...or 3p.
good times, bad times you know I've had my share
