Is 100 BSI agreed by the CWU?
Can somebody confirm whether or not 100 BSI is agreed by the CWU? in this months voice magazine Bob gibson page 6 quotes it is not agreed ? why is it planners are still using it if this is the case? It is unachievable and unrealistic .

Re: Is 100 BSI agreed by the CWU?
It's irrelevant whether it's been agreed or not.
Royal Mail and their planners will come to your office and do whatever the f**k they like.
It will not be achieveable, it will not be in any wat conforming to Health and Safety, (except possibly on paper), it will make no sense.
That is all.

It's not irrelevant about what's been agreed or not.. Royal Mail Planners will come and try and impose .. It's how you react to that that counts.mailmonkey wrote:It's irrelevant whether it's been agreed or not.

Re: Is 100 BSI agreed by the CWU?
BSI is productivity e.g the amount of mail coming in needs to be sorted on IPS has a time value,d2d prep has a time value, the time it takes coded trays thrown off on each walk has a time value , add ips time and coded tray time plus prepping the ips sorting into the frame by the number of hours you have before lunch break(ie 3hrs). RM believe that if you only prep your walk with trays and ips, d2d and sorting you will have some spare time before lunch break. This spare time varies between 30mins and 1hr where you having nothing to do, so an hour a day per person per day in a depot of 40 people then RM feel they are paying out 40 hrs a day for no work ,just on the indoor element of the job. 100 bsi means all available indoor time is being fully used or if 1 hr a day with nothing to do the BSI will be 80 for example. In order get everyone onto 100 bsi it often means redeploying some employees to do specials, tracked etc which takes them out of the office and in turn you then use the 1 hr you have free to prep their walk thus achieving the magic 100 bsi. It all goes tits up of course when sickness and absence kicks in because RM feel you can prep your own walk, 1 hr prep on the other walk and still prep the walk that has rung in sick. This is where RM managers find themselves prepping a walk because they have not built in any sickness or absence into the indoor work time and you smile nicely and say 'sorry guv your computer says i'm working at full pelt, cant help you'.

Our office, local rep, dep rep opposed and opposed under VALID H and S concerns, welfare concerns, feasibility concerns etc.hampshireman wrote: It's not irrelevant about what's been agreed or not.. Royal Mail Planners will come and try and impose .. It's how you react to that that counts.
Area and Div reps signed off the revision over our heads.
That's why the whole deal, and what was or wasn't agreed was irrelevant in our office.

added to which, anyone coming in early, will also distort the figure.

Re: Is 100 BSI agreed by the CWU?
RM simply calculate the work coming in and the work needed to be done against the number of people available , on occasion figures of 110 bsi or more will be achieved due to working above the agreed standard during the 3 hr span 0600-0900 the busiest time. Put simply if 30 employees do the work of the required 40 then the BSI will exceed 100, the time is calculated during normal office hours , that early birds work is not counted before 0600 , he will be down as achieving the same rate as everybody else who comes in on time , if they do the 3 hrs work in 2.30 then the indoor work model does not care; it just needs to know was there 3 hrs indoor work for him , it only gets flagged up when the expected 3 hrs work takes 4 hrs.AnnexeB wrote:added to which, anyone coming in early, will also distort the figure.

And if the "early bird" takes 3hrs30min to do the work he is allocated 3hrs to do.steviemac wrote:that early birds work is not counted before 0600 , he will be down as achieving the same rate as everybody else who comes in on time , if they do the 3 hrs work in 2.30 then the indoor work model does not care; it just needs to know was there 3 hrs indoor work for him , it only gets flagged up when the expected 3 hrs work takes 4 hrs.AnnexeB wrote:added to which, anyone coming in early, will also distort the figure.

Re: Is 100 BSI agreed by the CWU?
For the record there is nothing in the BTA National Agreement which commits any office to performing at 100BSI. The CWU has said on countless occasions there is no agreement to 100BSI.
Of course planners will try and get you to go to 100BSI they are being told to by their operational managers. They may quote upper decile but we have not agreed the criteria for what would be upper decile and the realitiy is the upper decile mantra does not compare offices on a like for like basis regardless if your a metro office , town , rural or even a surburban office.
Geo route default postion is 100 BSi but we all know we dont accept the first proposal out of geo route or for that matter IWT.
So the union has not agreed and it is not in the BTA agreement so the answer to the thread is no.
