Two jobs in Royal Mail?

In our office there are number of ' part time ' jobs which starts 5pm till 8 or 9 pm. Is it possible for a regular postman to singn one of these jobs ( postmen who are on early duties or nights) ?

Thats great news, in our office I got 12 hours SA and soon they will be abolished and done away with. So rather than sitting at home before my duty I could do this part time job. In our office we have number of part time evening jobs. The total number of hours one would be working will be 60 ( duty + part time ).

I mean the money will be good but where will your life be.

Things are very expensive down here in South East of England . No flat under Â£180,000 and no house of any kind under Â£230,000.

There is a 3 bedroom terraced house near me going for under Â£100K, average price in my area for a 3 bed semi is around Â£150K but weirdly flats/maisonettes are the same (probably because there aren't many available and they are posh developments).

Yes ! but RM is cutting down on SA and overtime.

You can opt out of the 48 hour limit and if oxon is already doing
12 hours SA, he must have already signed the opt out.

I thought it was just for a while you could opt out,like we do at xmas,but i found this.

Opting out of the 48 hour week

If you are 18 or over and wish to work more than 48 hours a week, you can choose to opt out of the 48 hour limit. This must be voluntary and in writing. It can't be an agreement with the whole workforce and you shouldn't be sacked or subjected to a detriment (for example, refused promotion or overtime) for refusing to sign an opt-out.

If you sign an opt-out, you have the right to cancel this agreement at any time by giving between one week and three months' notice. You can agree this notice period with your employer when you sign the opt-out. You can cancel an opt-out even if it's part of a contract you've signed.

You are quite right but stick to your 40 hours and someone else could have a part time job!

Unfortunately housing costs in places like London and Oxford are really high
and postal workers do have to do a lot of ED/SA or have a second job to make
ends meet.
No one wants to have to spend more time than necessary at work but if you have
a Â£100k+ mortgage as many do, you don't have much choice.
