Lost a recorded delivery

So today I had a recorded letter in the last bag of my walk, they weren't in so wrote the code on my card, and stuck through the non attendance card. Later, back at the office, I couldn't for the life of me find the letter. Two possibilities in my mind, either I stuck it through with the card (possible as that very house had a miss sort amongst it's mail which I know distracted me) or, put it in the bag's front pocket, which I found out later had a massive tear across the bottom. Annoyingly, I even checked the pocket was ok before hand but because the bag was full of mail, it would have been tight and thus probably came across as ok.

Told the guy in the office I may have lost it when I handed in my non delivered parcels. Also drove around that last bit of the walk to check it wasnt lying in a bush or something.

What's likely to come of this? It's pretty damn annoying especially as I tend to be slow and do everything by the book, but a bloody ripped bag probably kicked my arse.

Honestly.............depending on your relationship with your DOM, best case scenario 1 Yr Reprimand, worst case scenario Dismissal.

Own up straight away, apologise straight away, do everything you can think of to retrieve it and hopefully you'll get away with a reprimand, in todays climate I would expect the worst.............sorry but that's how it is.

We've all done it, unless you're a total pain in your DOMs arse then all you'll get is a warning.

Well no i'm the opposite, I have barely spoken to the DOM but i'm the guy who never says a bad word to anyone, even when being put on different walks daily and regularly working late and almost never claiming it.

You should be OK then, not worth worrying about................unless your DOM is out to cut numbers by any means necessary You should only get a bit of counseling as this is what they should use for minor infractions.

I would agree if, firstly the customer didnt have a no answer form shoved through there door and secondly, the signature card didnt have the items barcode + N/A/F/L written. I guess I could have tried to cross all that out, but didn't seem wise to go out of my way to cover it up when there's other things that can link me to it.

I Think your the Dumb one here crockboy, that's not the advice to give anyone. First of all he would have wrote the tracking number on his E Pod card with the date and time on it which clearly shows he was on that walk that day, and if his Phg is like mine he will tell who wrote the card the customer brings in by his hand writing.

I misread that. A non attendance is a p739?
You'll need to admit you might have lost it then if you've handed back your delivery card.
I have no idea why everyone runs back to their offices that aren't on park and loop.
If it was me and i had put a p739 in and was asked later about a recorded delivery that i'd knew i'd lost, I'd have still acted dumb Cantona and said well i pouched everything off at the local postbox. :)

Difficult to say what actions will be best without knowing what sort of manager you have,but always best to tell callers office as there's nothing that pisses them off more than hunting for something that's not there,and that would usually lead to them telling the manager anyway. I would have signed card off "assumed delivered" and told manager,good idea also to tell manager you'll knock on the door tomorrow to try and sort the problem out yourself!

Don't get stressed about it,there's two kinds of posties in this job.......one's that have made mistakes and feckin liars!

Everybody's done this (or similar) at one time or another. Don't worry about it, mistakes happen. Chances are you posted it with the card. If it was me I'd own up but I wouldn't be too worried. If it was a Special rather than recorded then I'd be more concerned but at the end of the day the worst that should happen is that you get your knuckles rapped and told to be more careful in future unless your DOM's a real s**t. Definitely better to own up though so your DOM is prepared for any complaint from the customer rather than him knowing nothing about it and looking like an idiot - then he'd maybe take it out on you.
