WHAT ISSUES ARE IMPORTANT TO YOU

Lets help out the Union in its forthcoming consultation exercise. I am going to set up a poll but to get me going can anyone suggest what issues they see as important to them. Once I have a good selection I will start the poll running.

For me the 2 most important ones that need to be addressed are
Managerial B&H
Unsustainable Workloads

Managerial B&H is top issue by far. (In my opinion)
Apathy of members comes a close 2nd. Need to find a way to address that.

I want to see postmen getting saturday off on August bank holiday and Easter Saturday (Ideally before a bank holiday monday)

I want to see Royal Mail becoming more green as I don't like to see all those extras vans and cars on roads.

General attitude of senior union officials, I think a lot of people have totally lost faith in them and they either don't see it or are choosing to ignore it (call it the Sepp Blatter effect).
Support of smaller offices that have taken the brunt of RMs attacks in the past years.

a better way of selecting managers like selecting people with SENSE rather than yes men and nodding dogs. id also like to see more fairness in the job rather than b&ll lickers being favoured EVERY time. i work in a mail centre and see incompetent managers and a very disjointed workforce with no loyalty to each other, morale is coming to an all time low

Temporary Contracts.What's the reason for them? Why are Royal Mail delivery Postmen/Postwomen not taken on with permanent contracts these days? With the imminent closures of Mail Centres,can the permanent staff at these places simply be offered the job of someone who holds a temporary contract in delivery and is this the aim?

Yes - and Yes

Its not good is it but IMHO that is the reason for the increase in FTC (fixed Term Contracts).

just outta curiosity is there anyone part time on here that has worked for royal mail longer than 4 years on a temp contract ?

Its just reading the employment act where it states that 4 years is the longest time a employer can keep you temporary, i was just wondering if anyone at all has reached this stage and has actually been made permanent from the company ?

I want to see the new business plan in full.
If HQ has seen it...we deserve to see it...warts and all not be drip fed parts of it to promote certain agendas.
I want to see what ideas Royal Mail has for taking us through privatisation and what effect this will have on my terms and conditions...and what the union has in mind to fight it.
The direction Royal Mail intend to take is the major issue...if it's as bad as i imagine it will make CR's in London look minor because nobody's job will be safe.

Effects of longer delivery spans and ensuring weight off the shoulder.

A Union who's main concerns are the improving term and conditions of ALL the membership. No winners and losers.
A Union HQ who are committed to their members, not their own political agenda.
An employer that is committed to the agreements it makes. Stops moving the goalposts and actively trying to provoke Industrial Action.
An end to the divide within the membership, eg, delivery v mail centres and full time v part time.
For all employees to be able to start and finish on time, with no need for anyone to feel they need to work unpaid overtime.
Use of the conduct code only when addressing conduct issues, not as a method of reducing headcount.
To be part of a valuable public service, not a cash cow to be milked (sold off) for the sake of it.

That's just off the top of my head,I'm sure if I thought about it I could fill an entire page.

Part time / casual contracts- I dont think the usual excuses of changes in the business etc really cut it anymore. These types of contracts are explotation of paying union members and they need to be addressed!!!!

Summer lapsing- We need a statement form the union about this really. Many people seem to be being coerced into doing something that doesnt seem to have been agreed by the union

Mail volumes- we keep being told that mail volumes are falling and so we need to do more work. What are the actual figures including DSA, d2d and packets? My bag seems to be getting heavier by the week

Budget targets: Unachievable work loads seems to be on most of peoples lists but unachievable budget cuts seem to be the main cause of this. It doesnt matter if RM makes 1billion profit or a 1billion loss how can an office make cut in hours when the workload is the same?

B&H- Bad business culture needs to be addressed

Agressive Union involvement- We have a site based union Rep which isnt much good if he hides in the office all day! He should be on the shop floor shouting at the linos just for the fun of it! RM has grown into an agressive opponent and the Union seems to taking a soft approach to the important issues

Honesty and openness by all parties. No hidden agendas and no parochial hijacking of the unions national resources.
