Dont know how much more of the bullshit....

Post by RetroJunkie »

I can stand

being part time has taken yet another turn, been moved from 7-1 til 8-2, no longer throwing off my own delivery, and suppose to be absorbing part of another duty as well as delivering my own delivery.

the idea seems completely flawed imo, as obviously people ain't gonna be off the ips at 8 o'clock any day of the week apart from a Saturday, yesterday i walked in and someone had only just started throwing my walk off at 7.30, i got into work for 7.50 and the person had obviously sneaked off back to throw there own walk off, not that alot would get done anyway in that time.

so anyway i was then told to go and take my absorption out this was at around 8.20 maybe, as 2 managers had been throwing the walk off on the absorption, i got back to the office then at around 9 and my delivery was still not ready to go, a manager and some part time 9 o clock starter was throwing it off when i got back, god knows why he was as he should just be delivery only aswell.

Anyway haha i was then told by the manager to prep my door 2 doors, which i shouldn't even be touching, so i prepped them intill the delivery was ready to go, while also having a driver breathing down my neck to tie up as quick as possible because i was making everyone else late in regards to bags in safe drops and making him late in general.

Now being a light day yesterday i managed to finish bang on the correct time of 1.30 as im entitled to a 30 minute break.

Now this is where it gets interesting regarding 2day, obviously as known not gonna be off the ips, so management now expect me to throw off my delivery from 8 o clock, give you then no option aswell but to do the absorption first and then come back and tie up your own delivery after kill offs, redirections and packet marking and go out and do it all within your time.

I just think we should be given the option to do it after our deliveries if its within our hours, and if we cant do it then its tough simple as.

You don't do absorbing if you don't have time. If they tell you to take it, fine.
You come back prepare your frame as required.
If a driver hassles you, tell him tough, go see the manager.
Then if you think you're going to be working past your finishing time taking a full delivery you do one of two things.
1. Tell the manager and claim overtime.
2. Tell him you're not doing any overtime and here's 1 hours work for you.

It's that easy stick to your guns and before you know it your frame shall be prepared and ready for you starting your shift.

IT'S NOT BULLSHIT, do what they want in your allocated time and go home stress free! :Very Happy

How are they actually saving by this though if you cant deliver the absorption and a full delivery in your allocated hours any day of the week for instance, there gonna have to pay someone else to do it anyway ?

Its not about saving money though - in the 8 years I have been at RM we have gone from making money hand over fist to recent rumours that RM were struggling to pay our wages.

What it is about is:

Saving hours, which is why the recommendation given by crockboy is good.
Telling their superiors that they are able to lapse x amount of hours
Allegedly it helps with their bonuses.
It gets mail out of the door.

In other words there are many reasons and none are to do with saving money, or providing a service.

I just feel like a asshole at times in this job, because you cop all the grief for it from the public who are oblivious to what is actually going on.

i have no desire at any given time to claim any overtime in this job as i have other commitments outside of my hours, so what if i where to consistently cut off the vast majority of the time on full deliveries because of the absorption, i just keep thinking my jobs on the line and will just be 1 big confrontation based on the fact that i cant complete or cope with the task handed to me, mainly due to the full delivery being to much once the absorption being done.

 Sounds like the managers are taking the right pish! Do you have a union guy at your DO? I would ask to see him tomorrow and make sure you tell the manager in front of him that you wont put up with that kind of rubbish anymore! Funny enough i walked into a similar situation today, half my walk not prepped, no d2d sorted, summer lapsing etc. I complained to my lino constantly everytime i saw him near by and i got paid OT for finishing late today and iam getting paid to come in early tomorrow and prep d2d. I doubt harrassing your lino will make him less useless but at least you get paid for the extra effort. If you dont kick up a stink your lino will think you dont mind working for free!

what's even more bullshit is we have part time staff that where originally employed and have 30 hour contracts from the start and they aint absorbing and are still 7-1 as normal, throw your walk off from 7 and complete a delivery, so in a sense there was already a divide between part time and full time, now its like having 3 different shifts working against each other if that makes sense.

so yeah dunno how its working in other offices but the only people absorbing in mine are ppl who where made up to 30 hours after a period of time being on a lower hour contract.

I used to worry about cutting off, but when you are asked to do the impossible every day you soon get over it, at first the confrontation with the managers is daunting but stick to your guns mate and dont let the bastards get you down :Very Happy

Just some friendly advice the mods dont like swearing so might want to censor your posts a little! :Very Happy

I managed to completely miss the part where you said you dont want the OT so sorry if my 1st post wasnt too useful! As others have said lapsing is not manditory no matter what the linos say. If you dont think you can complete your walk and lapsing within your time then your within your rights to refuse to take it. But make sure you do finish on your time if you dont take the lapsing by slowing down if need be!

Its strange that there is that divide between who takes lapsing and who doesnt. All walks are supposedly equal so if theres time to do lapsing and your walk then shouldnt there be time for all of you?

I don't understand this thread then? If you're paid 5hrs for your shift, you only need to do five.
Are you unhappy about doing more outdoor work and less indoor?
They can only make you walk 3hrs 30mins with a bag over the shoulder.
Maybe they need to try and make savings but 10 into 7 doesn't go.
So work the hours you're paid for and if you're happy to do OT, do it.
Or they're expecting you to do it and not claim any OT.
Anything else i don't see what the big deal is.
You didn't say you're being bullied by the management.
You said you were finished on your time.
So you're unhappy because it was a so called lighter day you didn't get finished early?
That doesn't work, you worked your paid hours. you work till your time and if you're over you claim OT or you refuse to do it.
I will say it again, they can make you do ANYTHING in your allocated shift.( But you only walk for 3hrs 30mins with a bag over the shoulder)
After that you get a 20min break before you can walk again.
Know the agreed standards you're fine.

well its only the 1 duty being absorbed in the entire office, and i'm sure including myself the amount of posties absorbing it including myself is 5 and as i say they have dumped it all on people who where originally on 24 hour contracts and then recently made up to 30 hours, which was January time i believe i was made up to 30 hours.

i work 6 hour days and get paid for 5 as you accumulate an extra 30 hours over a 5 week block to have a rest week.

In a sense yeah i would prefer to do indoor work over outdoor, just throw my delivery off and go out and deliver it, always cut it fine and took me rite to my time and i was happy doing that.

yeah i did finish on time but i'm talking in prospective of 2 days of being back since the bank holiday as its only started since yesterday in my office, i just find its more of a struggle doing more outdoor work than indoor, find its more time consuming and as i say i dont really wanna be in positions of cutting off, as with how it use to be 7-1 i rarely if ever cut off.

Ok, i get you.
You don't want OT.
Sorry but they can make you do anything in your 6hrs. But you can only work for 3hrs30mins at a time with a bag over the shoulder.
If he's a reasonable guy and you have a union rep then the absorbing should be getting done on a rotating basis with the other OPGS and only if it can be done in your contracted hours.

well if that's the case from here on out, something needs to be addressed by management to my driver, as there's no point having him stood over me as ive just come back from absorbtion, telling me to get tied up and rushing me and saying he needs to go etc and he has other people to deal with and not just me, i can't work around someone like that, ive had 2 arguments with him in 2 dayys because he obv just cares about himself and not what i'm ment to do now in my contracted hours.
