6 months ineligibility for re-applying

Didn't get the first RM job I went for, applied for another only to be told:

Unfortunately on this particular occasion your application has not been successful as you failed a previous, similar assessment, you are ineligible to re-apply for 6 months from the date of your previous assessment.

Which I can only take to mean RM would rather interview/recruit anyone, absolutely anyone rather than someone who may have come second in an interview within 6 months? Even if any of these anyone were well below the standard of the person who came second??

This is the most retarded policy I've ever heard of - and I've worked in the NHS!!

In my particular case I have no idea if I came second or not, but it may be that I didn't get the job due to being run over 3 weeks previous to the interview and having a broken collarbone.
Who knows?
I thought I'd make the effort, show willing and turn up as, what the hell it couldn't hurt any future applications now could it? WRONG! It could.

Unsurprisingly I've found it pretty hard to track down a contact email address or number for RM HR that actually leads me to a real human being I could discuss this with.
If anyone has an idea of how I could do anything about this I'd be most interested (yes, it may have been a lucky escape, but that's not the point )

another section of the rejection email I recieved was:

If you would like to be kept informed of our latest vacancies please take advantage of our email job alert service.

WTF!?! Why the hell would I want to be "kept informed" if I'm "ineligible to re-apply for 6 months"?

It's probably been fiddled mate, your probably more than competent enough to do the job but someones nephew, mother, or brother wanted a job within the industry and their name was dropped out to management by a senior postie to whom they are related. It used to happen in our office regular, taint what you know it's who you know

If you were considered suitable you'd be put on a waiting list and when a vacancy came up you'd be contacted, saves them interviewing every time a job comes up so makes sense!

Seems to me that for whatever reason you were considered unsuitable.

Yeah,that happened to me i seem to recall.

Went for the interview but didn't hear anything back,rang HR & they told me that although i had been successful there were no vacancies at the minute & i would be contacted when one came up.

Got a phone call with a start date less than a month later.

When i applied for my job they had changed some of the automated emails and left out one of the questionaires you needed to hand in. I did some xmas sorting so noticed it was missing yet had to wait till my interview to tell them. Ment a second trip to the delivery office for every interviewee to take more documents down! retarded...

The broken collarbone is nost likely the reason you failed the assessment and can't take another one for six months.
You can apply for details of why you failed but I think there's a £10 charge for that information.
It's harder work and worse weather than the NHS but you do get given fifty First Class stamps just before each Christmas, so better luck next time - and watch out for those cars !

I had a similar problem.....was told I had failed my interview although I felt I had done quite well. I complained to Human Resources in Shefield on the grounds that I had only had two hours notice of the interview, the way the interview was conducted ie the interviewer was taking phone calls during it and his general attitude ie telling me that the questions he was asking were a waste of time but he had to go through them etc. I subsequently was informed that the answers I gave to these questions were supposedly not good enough. I was quite surprised to be offered another interview at a different office and subsequently got the job!
Hope this helps, if nothing else it proves that perseverance (it took me about 18 emails to get a human being to ring me!) can pay off.
