rude/abusive customers
If you get the verbally abusive customers who come out shouting and screaming at you because they have had too many mis sorts, or they get the mail too late for them, or demand you hand the mail to them before you reach their door (sometimes before you reach their street even) etc, what are your rights? Can you threaten to report them to the office and they have to collect their mail, because posties like everyone else is entitled to work free from abusive and harrassment?
Also if they have aggressive dogs that may not bite but come snarling over the fence at you making delivering mail intimidating? can you do the same? Notify the office to warn them and let them collect?
Ive had three cases of the former in the past week and one of the latter

Just say "I from Poland, your bush is very nice in the winter time but I don't have any carrots for sale right now, thank you so much" then walk away... usually works for me!
Union what Union? Do we have a union?

Fascinating.
The societies of consumption and squandering of material resources are incompatible with the idea of economic growth and a clean planet.

Re: rude/abusive customers
I made sure there was a sign up in the Enquiry Office saying that RM did not tolerate abuse towards their staff. Unless the posties are to walk around with a sandwich board on them saying as such, I'm not sure how RM can make it clear to some of the arseholes we have to deal with.stokes11eg wrote:All other companies make it clear that abuse towards their staff will not be tolerated, R/M should do the same!
Only thing to do is ignore the person until they speak to you in a civil fashion and if that doesn't happen, call the Police and make a complaint. Then inform the DOM and advise them that you won't be delivering to that person's address again until the DOM makes it clear to them that such behaviour is not acceptable, and you'll be handing all the mail to the DOM to do with as they see fit until the matter is resolved.

i complained to my dom last week after some tosser abused me for his mail being wet. theres a standard letter that gets sent out telling them to contact the office, failure to do so results in suspension of delivery.and then after they've apologised they're told if there's any repetition they have to collect their mail. in short you don;t have to tolerate abuse, so don't and obviously if he thinks apologising to a dom is enough, well we shall see.

Re: rude/abusive customers
We could do with a "standard letter" like that in our office. We just get the lino promising to pay them a visit, which i don't think is always followed uptiggle wrote:stokes11eg wrote:All other companies make it clear that abuse towards their staff will not be tolerated, R/M should do the same!
