Lapsing,before or after your own duty?

We've been told lapsing will be starting next week and we've got to do it before our own walk. I was under the impression lapsing was only to be given to those who finish their own duty early and therefore have the time to do it.Are they really supposed to give it you before your own walk?

They can do what they like but if you then don't have time to complete your own duty then just leave a bit of that

our lapsing has always been done before as they insisted, then when we dont complete its our own duty that suffers

we did lapsing for 1 week back in 2008 i think it was. everyone cut off everyday. we've never done it since.

The powers-that-be assume that posties will not want to pi$$ off people on their own rounds ( especially if the postie has done the walk for a long time, and is on friendly terms with many of the punters..... also for posties on rurals who may have important mail for farms, and isolated addresses etc )

So if they get the postie to do lapsing first, then the DOM's objectives are more likely to be met.

I guess the reason they are telling you to do the lapsing first is so they can later try to convince you that you have to complete 100% of your walk no matter what time your going to finish! You can refuse to lapse if you do not think you will finish your duty on time. So if they insist on the lapsing first you will have to ask them what they want you to do with the remaining part of your walk! Be strong if you honestly wont have time, we are fighting the same battle at my DO so know how you feel.

In the current climate you think DOMs are concerned about customer service? If customer service was important i dont think they would be lapsing in the first place.

Of course the DOM dosnt give a flying **** about customer service,but they are hoping the postie worries about it ( especially in the examples i mentioned ) and thus completes his walk even if it takes him/her over time.

Ah sorry see what you mean now! Making posties work for free to keep their customers happy is definitely something a DOM would do.

There is a failure in your logic... if you only do it AFTER your walk how many people are going to find they have too much work so can't do it. By making you do it BEFORE your walk they can make sure it gets done and people then rush to finish their own duty. Simples

We have to do it before. They think that we are less likely to cut off our own round than we are to not do the lapsing. True I guess, but it f***s us up. When you have special deliveries, doing the lapsing can set you back 20 minutes, so if you have an SD towards the end of your round the lapsing you've done before can be the difference between you cutting off from a point in your delivery to do the SD and not having to stop what you are doing to drive ahead. Therefore it costs you time puts you behind.


About a month ago my walk didn't get delivered the day before (my day off). So the next day I assumed the priority would be to deliver my round that didn't go out the day before, but no, I was told to do the lapsing first (that wasn't lapsed the day before and got delivered) so I had to cut off from my round, meaning that part didn't get delivered for two days.

Yup this is very true methinks! Mind you I'd take 20 mins absorbtion over the revision any day of the week!

Finish 20 mins later doing absorbtion or at least 1 hr and 20 mins after a revision = no contest!

Hear what you're saying guys. BUT PLEASE JUST CUT OFF And spread the word around your office. Lets try and communicate as well as the management. RMC is the equivalent to the managers Conference Calls that they alll spend an hour a day on!

We need to nip this summer time Lapsing in the bud BEFORE it even gets off the ground.
