9 day fortnights cover

We have a mix of 5day week and 9 day fortnights in our office.
Asa reserve can i be forced to do a 9 day fortnight duty which is a longer day?
What the manager says is if reserves don't cover 9 days how are they to be covered.
The thing is when the preference forms came round i did not opt for 9 day
Any advice appreciated

Can't see the problem as long as you are doing the duty for the full fortnight and getting the days off that go with it.
The Dom could try and accommodate your preference of doing a 5 day week, but if it is not possible operational needs dictate.

2 choices book ot as anything you do over 7 48 is extra or insist on 3 days off in the fortnight .

Been having this argument with our DOM. Some reserves did not want to sign up for 9 day cover. We work 200 hours over a 6 week period. if you are a 5 day reserve and then asked to pick up 9 day duties you have to keep a check on your hours you could be working more than 200 hours. Been advised by Area rep to lodge a grievance form if you are put on 9 day duties, because they are changing your hours of employment,

What i was told was that because the 9 day rotate is 4 weeks i.e 1st week wed off; 2nd week Thur off; 3rd week Fri &Sat off; 4th week Mon & Tue off
I would do a 9 day for 4 weeks and that would balance the hours.
But i said that what if i don't want to work longer hours, he said that a reserve's a reserve

You gotta use your noodle here, tell him you have to do something that stops you doing the extended hours, say you're willing to do the duties but only until your normal cut off time, that's a compromise on your part, he then chooses whether to accommodate you or give you a duty that incorporates your previous hours.......win win
