First couple of weeks are normally brutal whilst your getting used to the pysical strain so if you enjoy it hang in ther it will get easier on that side of things. With driving would be worth asking around see how your drivers are treated before you go down that route. Once you have done that RM test they can put you on driving jobs when ever they want so worth finding out if its any good first! Your break is your break doesnt matter what time you finish. And if you are finishing later then your time badger your line manager as they should pay you. And yes if your on 5 hours a day you are expected to tie up yourself and do a delivery! not a driving test really.. its basically a risk assessment of your driving, normally done by the AA for RM... its simple stuff really... just a drive around your area.. with them watching your driving style... wether you get to close to other cars, whether you can reverse round a corner etc...

its pretty hard to fail... since the assessor normally tells you if you are doing something wrong and watches to see if you correct yourself after being told...

one bloke at ours did after he was told by some senior colleagues that to be a royal mail driver you had to drive from a to b as fast as possibleaaah the good old days

One of my friends almost crashed the van on his RM driving test! Still passed him... only in Royal Mail!
