Can i be forced to work over my time?????

We have just had a revision adding houses onto our delivery.This means it takes me to nearly my finishing time to walk back to the office and deal with packets/recordes that i have not got rid of.Now summer savings have arrived in the office i informed my manager that i am happy to work my hours 8-4 but am not willing to work overtine as i have commitments at home.Even if it means i take out 10 houses worth of savings i am prepared to do so.But today we had a heavy mail so i informed my manager that i would not be able to do the extra streets,my manager went off on one lying at the fact that i get dun my delivery at 1-2 most days which is rubbish.He was really off with me but i pointed out that am entitled to finish on my time but fell on deaf ears.His attitude was shamefull leaving me nearly in tears.Where do i stand???????

Welcome Rising Sun. the simple answer to your question is NO he can't make you work over your time. As you have discovered he may well try to bully you into it and bullshit you with lies.

We always say take it to your Union Rep as the first step. Have you got one? I expect your DIMs just trying it on to see if you'll fall for it, but an experienced rep will normally sort it out. I'm sure you'll get lots more advice don't let it stress you out, He's in the wrong and knows it!

We have had a similar revision with extra houses added to our walks that takes me over time I have complained to the area rep and yesterday the undermanager came out with me to look at the walk.Today the manager came out with me to see how the walk was done,When we got back to the office he went into his office,leaving the door open so every one could hear and they both sat talking about me and my delivery without saying a word to me. I have been after pouch drops for over a year and still nothing gets done,the union seems powerless to help

Put in a grievance every time a manager pisses you off, they soon stop pissing you off!

Just remain calm and don't take it personally. They will try every trick in the book to try and get you to work over time but they are pissing in the proverbial wind and have no sunstance to thier threats.

Just work your time, inform them when you feel you may not complete and ignore thier moaning. Don't let it upset you it isn't worth it!
