BANK HOLIDAY LEAVE

Hi all can any of you lot sort this out. Why do some 5 day week post people lose out in lieu when it comes to bank holidays.

1. if a person on a 5 day week is working during a public holiday week and that persons day off falls on a tuesday that person gets 2 days off, the public holiday and tuesday, this means they are only working 32 hours that week.

2. if a person on a 5 day week is working during the public holiday ie monday and their day off is the monday they receive the day off plus a lieu day for monday, therefore they are working 32 hours that week.

3. if a person on a 5 day week and on leave the bank holiday week ie monday, he receives the monday back when the other two have 2 days.

so all in all if you are on leave and your day off happens to fall on the public holiday monday should you receive 2 days in lieu.

The person on holiday gets one day in lieu.
He isn't losing out. If he had been at work he would have worked 1 day less that week for the same wages. As he is on holiday, he still gets the same wages, but gains an extra day in lieu. Both are the same.
The flaw in your argument is that those working during the bank holiday week have 2 days off, but even though the person is on holiday, they are only on holiday for 5 days not 6. They get a day in lieu back, meaning they have only had 4 days holiday, or 32 hours.

If you are on leave in a bank holiday week and your day off falls on the bank holiday you use 4 days A/L. You book tue-sat then get one back for your day off. This is 32 hours, the same as the other staff will be working. Where is the problem?

I can remember a time when if you worked a Bank Holiday you had the choice of either double time and a half, or time and a half and a day in lieu.
I don't ever remember being able to get paid instead of a day in lieu, if the Bank Holiday fell on a rest day or holiday
