I would agree with the suggestion that not many at conference are local reps. However everyone is entitled to attend just show up with membership card and your in. That said only the official branch delegation would have their travelling and accomadation costs paid for out of CWU funds. Branches can take trainee delegates. I also belive the size of thier delegation may be laid down in the rule book, will have to check on that one. Its mid conference that local reps need to be there as thats when postal conference starts.

I finish work at 8pm so I could be in Bournemouth by 11pm.

There must be a nightclub where we could all meet up.

Book a weeks A/L for next year, save some pennies for travelling and accomadation. Expensive this lark of exercising ones democratic right to go to conference.

Unit reps don't need to be there....if branch officials are representing their views and therefore the views of the membership as a whole.
Are they?....not likely.
How many ordinary members have laid eyes on their branch delegation never mind had a meeting with them in the last 6 months...or come to think of it...even know who their branch have sent on this little junket.
Still it's all in a good cause.

It seems that the Union structure has evolved into something that does its best to keep unit reps away from each other.

Maybe that's the aim behind discontinuing residential courses.
