WTL

Work time learning meetings in our office is every Tuesday and lasts on average about 7 minutes, I have heard that 30 minutes is put aside for these meetings so can I take it that the 30 minutes should be in our 318, or what ever offical length of time given should be in our 318.

It used to be that WTL was on a Tues when the mail was lighter and could last half an hour and you had a chance to ask questions. If they showed you a dvd then at our place half the posties would leave the ips and then swap over. When lapsing/absorbtion came in that golden tues was lost and our WTL became a quick chat around the packet bags where upon the manager would just read out an email or two from the SOM.

However now we have had our revision there is NO CHANCE to stop for an hour and the manager simple walks around reading something out whilst we prep our frames. Half the time we cant hear him

So it would seem the time put aside for so called "learning" has gone. I dont know if its still on a 318 but tbh we have never followed those much anyway.

When we have a WTL we have to sign a sheet to prove what was said is adhered to, so for example if you contravened what was said at that meeting and you had signed the sheet then they can nail your hat to the wall, another excuse to discipline you.
I just hope that the 30 minutes is in the 318 because the more time we spend in the office then less time out delivering, gone are the days were posties make the job work and gain the time on the end of the duty as now we all face working to the last minute of the duty time, some can say they always have but some can say they are on easier duties, if you get my drift.

As a casual p/t i dont even get a quick chat around the packet frames! My last WTL was my lino saying beware of dogs during the summer and can you sign this sheet! That is the extent of my training nowdays....

I think that anything which delays your exit from the office and reduces your delivery time to the point where you many need to cut off or book OT is an acceptable reason for doing so. If your spending 30 mins standing around with WTL and then falling behind you will need to inform your manager that you will be working over and booking the extra or cutting off and bringing some work back. My money is on him wanting you to stay out and finish, booking the OT but whatever you do WHY work extra because of WTL delaying your delivery

I believe I read on this site that DIMs were paid part of their Bonus for "Successfully" managing to hold WTL sessions?
Surely it would be in their own interests, as well as those who can't wait to run out of the door, to quickly read out a memo, tick the box and grab the money!

You've got a point Krussell But remember those halcyon days of job and finish are gone. So sit down have a cup of Tea, listen to some Bullshit and then tell your Boss you won't have enough time to complete your Duty! (Don't mention the Cut-Off word. )

Our WTL normally takes place before our PTers turn up for work. This leads to loads of confusion when people say, "You should have known that it was covered in WTL".

Not so funny when it involves something important like the New Duty Revisions! You'd think it would be pretty simple to post the relevant points on the notice board. Obviously not! If Royal Mail Management had been responsible for organising D-Day we'd all be speaking German! Guten Tag!

Our WTL every tuesday is held before the part timers start time. Naturally, we are all there, as we have to start early to get packets done before the packet man leaves, bags done before the bag man leaves, catch lifts etc. Some make up for the time the WTL took by going even quicker. Me, I just write down all the overtime.

To the person asked about Job and Finish, yes we have it. It's great, no need to go back to the office, just go home when you finish, and write the overtime down in the morning.

Exactly the same in our depot, WTLs always before 0800 so anyone besides FT are constantly "out of the loop" and its a bloody disgrace! All staff should be informed of what is happening, so WTL should either happen once everyone is in, or it should be run again later for PT staff. At worst, a WTL noticeboard should be up for PT (and anyone not in on day of session) can go and read some sort of minutes about what was discussed.

No.
Some p/t staff are delivery only.
Some p/t staff are tie down and deliver only.
Some p/t staff have indoor time which may be sufficient for WTL on certain days.
