My partner was recently advised to resign by his union rep after swearing at a manager in front of collegues. He has been given
a precautionary suspension to be reviewed shorlty. He has resigned now , however I feel the system is letting him down as he
currently has a lot of personal problems going on in his life, and this incident was out of character. Please help?

in my view he shouldnt have resigned

He can always write a letter retracting the resignation and explaining the circumstances , but I don't think they are under a legal obligation to accept it.

However, if he has put in various grievances in his time with Royal Mail he may have a chance of claiming "constructive dismissal". However this is very hard to prove and you would probably need the services of an employment lawyer.

My advice is that if your partner is in the CWU, then he should try and contact the Area Rep and get his advice although at first glance a letter apologising for the outburst saying it was out of character, wont happen again etc..... is probably the best course of action.

Why would a rep advise a member to resign after swearing at a manager ?
Why not let the disiplinary procedure take it's course ..... and remain on pay while it did so ?
Are we getting the full story here ? :hmmmm

Must be very weak minded if someone has resigned for swearing at a manager. This happened at my office all the time.

I think you all are assuming that the union is there to help the employees. If you check out my forum you will see what I mean. Not only the postlady was unfairly dismissed and union did not help. The posties in her ranch now has to work from 5am till 3pm without extra pay and also under constant harassment from their manager. The union did not say anything. So yes don't assume union will help you they are there to line their pockets.
