MDEC - No Pay Rise at all

Post by de-coded »

Do any of the regular posties on here think that MDEC staff deserve a payrise the same as OPG.

I am after honest replies and won't be offended by any comments.

Thanks

PAY RISE

Post by TrueBlueTerrier »

I think everyone should get a pay rise from the lowliest newbie just starting to the old codger in the corner, from MDEC, OPG, part timers, full timers, walkers, sorters, night owls drivers and even callers office staff and customer service staff.

After all we all trying to do the of same job of getting mail from one address to another address.

Never heard of you guys, but i would of thought that most parts of the business would get roughly the same pay rises.
So if we don't get one you guys wont.

As for being on the same money,i guess you're doing a totally different job than us and you have your own section to sort pay rises and what your entitlements are ect.
Do you guys wear our uniform?

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

Silly question, but how much do you guys get paid compared to regular posties? At the very least, you should get paid the same.

It's funny. I actually did your job back before they set up the three (or four?) MDEC supercentres. Four to five years ago, each sorting office had its own videocoding room and we had at least 30 to 40 data entry people on the evening shift at Paddington in London. Mount Pleasant had even more. We were AG/PHGs and kept our pay when we got put on the sorting floor.

So yeah, I guess the new system is a lot more foolproof but I'd bet an incompetent postie can still misdirect dozens of letters a night. Even with the "perks" (hey, you get to listen to your Ipod!), you guys do important work. It's unbelievable that you guys get paid less, if you do.

I have visited the MDEC in Stoke as a ULR (Union Learning Rep). The conditions the guys and gals work in are very oppressive. They are constantly monitored by the minute by a manager sat at a desk with performances displayed on his/her screen. They get an eye rest break of 10 minutes every hour because of the risk of damage due to the constant staring at the VDU. Toilet breaks have to be taken in this 10 minute period or input figures drop and the manager aint happy. So yes of course the MDEC staff deserve a pay rise and should be on the same rate as the rest of the postal grade.
