less diesel used after p+l revision

We got told today that our office is using less diesel now than before p+l was introduced with only half the vans we have now.This is due to smaller vans being used and deliveries only going once over the ground not going round in circles with bags bulk and parcels any other offices found this out or are we just a fluke

In all seriousness i dont think it does make sense at all. We have like 4 vans for our division at the moment pre P&L and when we have a revision it will be at least 3-4 times that amount. How is this going to be more fuel efficient? Sure the amount of delivering may be reduced but you then have 3-4 more van trips to the begining of the walks / driving routes and then the return trip to the deport.

Fair point but it depends on your support vans.

For example we have 4 support Transits which go around dropping off Posties and then their bags before finally looping the area and dropping parcels. Some then have to drive out and pick a couple of posties up to bring back. Under p/l these vans will not be needed. Yes you will have an increase in small bipper vans but these will drive out to an area and then complete 3 walks including the parcels and drive back.

Stop start work in a Transit must only see say 25 mpg whilst a better run out in a Bipper should return at least 35 mpg if not 40 mpg.

The Transits get used for box collection work in the afternoons but are never even near half full when they return so a Bipper could be used in its place.

It falls down though once you add on tax and servicing of the extra vans Iam not totally sure of the saving there.

What RM want is 2 posties doing 3 rounds between them so if you take off the extra salary it prob swings back again, iam confused now

Either way its much more walking and work on your back even if its spread out on lighter smaller loads.

I never had a trip comp in my Combo but it depends how they are driven. You could prob get near to 40 mpg even around town if driven normally and not thrashed.

I get 45 mpg out of my own diesel car and i dont hang around

I think the fiats show between 28-32 on a rural, i would expect the combo to be similar as its the same engine. Not sure about the transhites, but i would say 30mpg!
Its likly that its down to the bipper alone as the hdi engine is a pritty good design with a 50mpg on urban possible, but never go by the onboard computer! its never 100% accurate!

40 is pritty good for the combo! ldv is pathetic! I think you would be lucky to see 40mpg on our combos as there is no telemitry in our's, that would certainly increase the mpg in our office lol
