In worktime learning today I asked my DOM why nothing had been done about the bringing of door-to-doors (D2D) into workoad. In my office there have been no changes to our walks and no allowance made for the time taken to throw off and deliver the D2D items.

His answer was that “It was nothing to do with him” and that “it was up to the project team”. When I asked him what he had discussed with this team regarding the lack of any walk revision over the last year, his answer was that he “had never spoken to them (it)”. This struck me as very strange.

Later in the day, when a colleague asked the DOM who was on this team, he gave no answer. I could not help but think that this elusive team does not, in fact, exist and that is why nothing has been done by way of compliance with the 2010 Agreement:

D2D traffic will be placed into measured workload both indoor and outdoor. This move into workload will require delivery duties to be adjusted and allowances to be made in order to provide sufficient time to ‘prep’ the items and deliver them. The appropriate delivery planning and measurement systems and revision tools (IWT, Pegasus Georoute etc) will need to be adjusted accordingly to bring this about. D2D will now need to be accounted for in the agreed Delivery Revision Process.

What has happened in our office? Nothing, and I expect you will all be saying the same thing to a man.

Another chestnut from the agreement of over a year ago:

To ensure ongoing and full involvement in the process, the local Manager and CWU representative will meet weekly as part of the planning, implementation and review process. Each meeting will be diarised at the start of the revisions process. Information and updates will be shared with the CWU Representative and Manager in advance of the meeting. Outputs, actions and relevant information will be shared with the colleagues in the delivery unit and displayed on a weekly basis.

Our CWU rep tells me that there has never been any involvement with management in these meeting because there have been no such meetings – and I suspect that is the case for all of you as well!

So, did Royal Mail plan it this way? Was the CWU in complicity with Royal Mail over this stance of non-activity and non-compliance with the agreement? Perhaps they both thought that, following the usual period of grumbling, we, the footsoldiers, would just get on with it, come in even earlier, work harder still and give up even more of our break time in order to get the work done.

I would be very interested to see what other folks think.

We 'absorbed' them into our duties because of the falling volumes.

I did them in work time before the new agreement so it not been a problem to me, just do them and cut off/claim OT as necessary.

And you are spot on DG! You would be amazed at how many times I see people coming in early and they say they have to do that becaue they wouldn't be able to finish their delivery .................it isn't all the fault of the union and RM, individuals too have their part to play. It wouldn't do any harm for another round of do the job properly.......................

loads of staff in my office bundle all their households up for the following week after they've finished their delivery on saturday, and no doubt pass the time by moaning about the later finish time and aint the union crap etc

half of our office take there d to ds home to sort ,which is a sackable offence , but the bosses let them get on with that,,as it suits them ! sad state of affairs

What exactly are you complaining about?
That the 5 lots of D2Ds haven't been factored into the workload? Haven't you heard ? There's no mail,plenty of time to prep your D2Ds now.
