Allocating people to duties and equipment

The delivery revisions process will produce a new duty set with new routes, methods and equipment. The Way Forward Agreement (Appendix 2) explains how and when a re-pick of duties should be used (resourcing jobs during major change). Because a delivery method will be prescribed for each route in the office, for Delivery Methods revisions, re-picks assume greater significance. Re-picks give the opportunity for people to select a duty that uses the equipment they prefer.

The following headline principles should be applied to your re-pick (but for fuller guidance, consult the Delivery Methods Repick Guidance paper, available in phase four of the Delivery Revisions Process online:

1. Staff will need to be trained on the equipment they will be using
2. Duties should be divided between driving and non-driving duties
3. In line with existing guidelines seniority applies to duty allocation. The only exception to this will be where it has been agreed that there are personal circumstances that need to be taken into account. For example people with a disability need to be offered suitable duties. (See section 16.4 para 3 of Ways of Working within Way Forward Agreement and Section 2.2 in Resourcing Jobs as a result of Major Change)
4. Driving duties will be restricted to existing and volunteer new drivers and non-driving duties will be restricted to non-drivers
5. A driver is needed for every shared van pair. Only one non-driver can pick into a shared van duty pair
6. Non-driving shared van partners should be restricted to 50% or less of the total number of shared van partners. The exact ratio will be determined by you, but the balance you must strike is between creating a duty set:
a. With enough options to match your peoples’ skills
b. With enough flexibility to give you adequate cover in cases of people failure and unplanned absence
7. The non-driving duties can be allocated to any of the shared vans, up to the agreed ratio
8. The cover and the leave reserve duties need to adequately cover the driving requirements of the shared van duty to ensure that the van can be taken out each day

You need to understand the driving requirements and be confident in having sufficient drivers at the planning stage

Well i thought it was going to be chaos in our office, apart from tweeking a few walks nothings really changed except 2 people now share a van instead of using their own cars. No trolleys used, no HCT just bag on the shoulder and go, some people even made 45 mins today!

We haven't long gone through a revision and a re-pick , but haven't got walk sequencing yet or P & L.

How is the P & L done as regards to how many duties does it effect? Does all the office get effected or is it just the duties a certain distance from the office?

It was supposed to be all duties out with 1 mile of the office would switch to p&l but in reality it's more or less every duty that doesn't start on the D.O. doorstep.
They don't like you dead walking for half an hour...it's not efficient.

What point are you trying to make Weller? Are you saying that you have been "By passed" by a Part-timer that has more seniority? :hmmmm

Your post doesn't make a lot of sense to me? We've discussed Seniority before on this site and the bottom line is..It's taken from the day you join RM, regardless of contract. If you've done 10 years on a 20 hour contract..you're senior to someone whose done 8 years on a 40 hour contract.

As for choosing partners it seems the prevailing tactic is to choose two people who can't stand the sight of each other and put them in a van to spend all day together! :Very Happy The only deciding factor in this is if they're both "Chunky Monkeys" and their combined weight would exceed the weight limit of their van! :dance

In this event they have to take turns jogging behind the van until they are both within safe weight limits! :whistle

the way we did it
you pick dutie as before with seniority
however if a non driver picked a duty then only a driver could pick the partnering duty
if a driver picked the fist of the pair then a driver/non driver could pick the other
the issue(from a seniority point of view) is at the end of the pick when only a few duties remain that are driver only
non drivers then 'drop' to reserve whereas less senior drivers get duties

The point I was trying to make was... At are depot they've cut off seniority at a certain number, given the part-timers the other duties that are left, made the other 10 + fulltimers relief/cover ( so 10 years work means nothing) then just to rub salt in the wound make them up to full-time at a later date!!... Thanxs!!!

See what you're getting at. I suppose the DIMs argument is that he needs a FTer to cover the FT Duties on their day off. :hmmmm
We had a situation were the DIM suggested covering 1 FT duty with 2 PTers on a "Job Share: Each PTer covering the FT Duty for half the week. 3 x 8 days = 24 Hr PT Contract. This has happened! :mad Is this what's happened to you?

You could argue this the other way around. Instead of giving PTers the FT duty 2 of them could do it between them. However I don't think this is a very fair way to sort it. Surely if the work is there then they should just make up the PTers to FT and offer them the Reserve job, leaving the Original FT Staff to pick duties on Seniority?

We always use to start off "Beginners" on Reserve Type Duties until they had the chance to sign for their own duty. Think you might have to fight this one Weller, at least you'll have the support of the other FTers who are in the same boat! :Very Happy
