There's probably a thread for this already but cant find it using the search function so apologies folks.

Saw next weeks days off sheet during the week, noted my duty and day off, next day both had been changed. Now i know mistakes are made and saturdays off are rarer than rocking horse s**t on the moon so to have a saturday whipped from underneath me is annoying but not the end of the world. OK the nub of my grumble is this should i as a cover/spare/lowest of the low (delete as applicable) still have a scheduled day off? All i ever seem to get is tuesdays off and long weekends are just a myth as far as im concerned and to tell the truth im f*cking sick of it.

Also how far ahead are we supposed to know our duties as without a regular day off i cant plan to do anything?

I'm no expert but your scheduled day off should be just that.
We do a week off every 6 in our place, no way it would wash moving weeks around.
Day off should be no different.
Sounds like another case of exploitation to me, see what anyone else here says and see a local rep if you can.

Reserves (I am one) rarely get saturdays off unless requested, I tend to specify each week what day off I need the following week, 50% of the time my ask is granted, never get a day off during bank holiday weeks, but get the day off back in lieu so no great issues there!

Quite often duties go up and the following day it's all change, you could argue that you saw you had the saturday off yesterday and immediately made plans and have booked tickets for a day out, friday night away etc, you'd probably get it back then if it's important to you.

But the answer to your question is yes, they can change it about as they like!

Most day off systems I've ever known, your rest day moves on one day every week till you get a saturday.

Not long after joining and i'd cover a walk for any proper length of time that system had been the case, the longest i cover a walk for these days is 2 weeks, normally its just a week and i supposedly get the scheduled day off for that walk.

Whilst the precise number of Saturdays off and the aspirations of employees will vary from unit to unit, both parties believe we can deliver cost effective and reliable options that will maximise the number of Saturdays off for those who wish them. Royal Mail and CWU commit to achieving at least 1 in 4 Saturdays off for the majority of employees (including reserves) during the roll out of the operational transformation programme. In some circumstances this may be exceeded utilising jointly identified options to provide 1 Saturday off in 2 or 3.

Not exactly generous, so you are left with RM/CWU agreements, which as fish said are close to tatters or a long way from
rollout completion.

You should get the day off of the duty you are covering,any rep worth his salt should ensure that.

You also (in the interest of fairness) should have some kind of reserve/floater aggregate list so you would be able to keep an eye on what days off they get.
So if a duty comes up and it's a sat off,if certain reserves haven't had one in a while they get 1st pic.
