I've heard of it before, also heard of the dog taking offence when someone else shows up with no biccies
Seriosly though, if a dog is that bad, just don't go near the place, endorse mail "dog at large", and return.

a guy I cover for does this and its a pain when you cover him as all the dogs come up expecting you to give them a biscuit too. i endorse mail dog out and bring it back

I used to have a packet of dog chews in the van. I kept one or two in my pocket and used to give to a couple of dogs daily Just a bit of fun really and i had asked the owners permission first. No way should this be seen as a way of getting around an aggressive dog as it wont work.

Reminds me of first walk I had on an estate, for about 2 months I had a brown staffie that used to follow me round the whole walk then wait
with me until the pickup van (before SDD) turned up
People walking past thought it was funny, they thought we usually get chased by dogs, not followed around

I used do a walk on a estate where a dog used to follow me around, I did not mind because the dog would be a distraction to other dogs and would end up fighting with them, I would just continue on my walk in peace.

Bloody dogs. "They are big softies... all bark, no bite", say other posties or owners. Lots of "scratch" though. I often get huge white scratch marks on my arms from excited dogs that jump up to greet me.
And, on my round, I should bring cornflakes or something to distract the evil turkeys that chase me on one farm. I told my manager about this. Now I have a reputation in the office of being a wimp !

The previous bloke on my rural duty gave a biscuit to each dog which barked repeatedly until it got it.
No biscuits from me, they soon get used to it and, as they say 'Silence is Golden'.

mine just used to go in every garden as I opened the gate to have a nose around and now and again mark its turf
Nice dog really, wish they were all like that
