Re: POLL : Will you vote YES or NO if balloted
Mind you I would go on strike to just to kick the management's arse, make them do the new deliveries themselves.
That said this time we want to lever some concessions from them, no intimidation and bullying, park & loop abandoned where it is not feasable, a more realistic workload, manager's must as part of their job work on delivery for 6 weeks to understand the work of the people they are managing/supervising, isolation from the shop floor is part of the problem. reinstate night shifts to sort mail ready for the morning shift, no more ips and just simply get the job done, no use of cars anyone using car is to be conducted with immediate effect, every body up and down the country to work of the same song sheet, I could think of more..............

Re: POLL : Will you vote YES or NO if balloted
If we as a union believe we are going to get high numbers on the picket lines this time we are deluded.
Let me just give some examples from our office with 40 odd people striking previously out of an office that tops 45, so a really strong turnout. We are told by the union rep and his help that we’re striking for many reasons, but one of those reasons is for us to get 'more' Saturdays off. This is very important for me, as like a lot of people I want to spend more time with my children.
Anyway the strike ends...One of the top union guys (Lee) comes to our office and puts forward a deal that axes another rest day cover. Now people can come in on their days off (His words) to work their own walks on overtime. He then comes out with the gem that 5 (Yes 5) people only will benefit from extra Saturdays off. He said we should not have expected everyone to benefit from Saturdays off as this was unrealistic. I just wish this had been mentioned when we were standing on the gate. So a vote is made even though there are 10-15 people missing from the meeting and it’s pushed through.
At this point the duties are shuffled to make sure the 'right' people get the Saturdays off - after we had voted i might add. I wonder if that is standard practice in every office, a resign that's changed when completed? You sign for a duty you think suits you and find out afterwards that you would have preferred one of the 'rearranged ones'. Complete joke and allowed to go on without a whimper from our union representative. In fact it’s one of the union reps duties that are shuffled!
Funny thing is those '5' people now get a long weekend every other week, so 2 long weekends a month. Both union reps have benefited and did not utter a word in regards to how this could be deemed unfair on people who lost money only to find they will receive 'no' extra Saturdays at all.
Why does the union 'push' for scheduled overtime deals into cuts made by royal mail knowing management will welcome this (No holiday pay, sick pay, duty gone for good) with open arms? Did they not fight for years to get us a 5 day week, so why then do they encourage people to come in on their days off when another body could have been doing this duty? We’ve had two rest day slots axed in our office now and both times these have been pursued by the local union reps simply to make space for overtime. I understand people need extra money, but why should this be at the cost of axed duties? The union tell us all the time about working to time, but these rules seemingly only apply to people who don't do overtime. The overtime crowd is happy to do the overtime along with their regular duty, especially drivers who will take bundles out in regular duty time. The reps see this, see people using motors, yet not a single word is mentioned. Hell, even the union rep is now using his car on delivery, which in my opinion is a complete and utter joke.
During the last set of strikes we had people standing on the gate and then coming in the next day to do overtime! Yes, we are striking to make things difficult and yet people you stand shoulder to shoulder with are coming in to defeat the purpose for their own gain. Again there is not a whimper from the union rep.
So this is what striking got me last time:
1. No more Saturdays off.
2. Another duty axed to make space for 'more' overtime.
3. As many door 2 doors (You know what I mean) royal mail wish to throw at me.
4. No time given (Like most offices) to prep this new workload.
5. The possibility i might lose a job when there is a job there ie scheduled overtime making way for duties.
6. A pay rise that doesn’t even come close to rewarding the hard work postman do on a daily basis, yet we are made to feel a real breakthrough has been made by our union.
7. The possibility I might be losing more money because these deals the union are making can seemingly be put to one side without any repercussion for royal mail, unless you call normal working men having to stand on a gate again a repercussion at royal mails expense?
Will the union be pressing for all scheduled overtime to be 'put back in the pot' when it comes to redundancies and people being made to move offices on a days notice? Will the union be implementing an overtime ban during this possible new set of strikes or am i expected to stand at the gate with people who will come in the next day to make the money up? I’m sure I’ll get a reply from a full bloodied union man pointing out my wrongs and at the same time answering my concerns, but this won’t change the fact that i am one of many workers who now believe strike action (Especially this possible set) does not represent or benefit the complete workforce.

It's a good post secluder and shows the "reality" of the union's position much better than those who simply bang an empty drum.At probably the time of our greatest need for solidarity we are left splintered and divided by years of organisational neglect and poor bargaining.
The point i have quoted is especially relevant with the news that another 40,000 jobs or one in four of us may be losing our jobs.
Can we really justify scheduled attendance now...under these circumstances?
Surely if we are all about "protecting full-time jobs" this should be the first sacrifice before more jobs are lost.
good times, bad times you know I've had my share

We still have 35hrs of SA in our office. That's a full time job.fishtank wrote: Can we really justify scheduled attendance now...under these circumstances?
The societies of consumption and squandering of material resources are incompatible with the idea of economic growth and a clean planet.

Re: POLL : Will you vote YES or NO if balloted
We have 60 hours of sa in our office of less than 40 people.
The PHG goes out and does his sa during his duty time, but thats ok, because the manager covers the door for him...Drivers take parts of sa out during duty time and do the axed postie duties. Working rest days due to axed duties and even ask for it.
I have lost faith 100% with the CWU.
