Any suggestion for getting that day off.
I am going to Amsterdam in August Bank holiday weekend. I want to book Saturday off but it is fully booked and trying to swap with someone (With Saturday 13th August) and asked 9 people. Nothing yet. The organizer have me on her guest list. I want to party on Friday, Saturday and Sunday not just Saturday and Sunday.
If I were Royal Mail I would give all employees day off on Bank Holiday Saturday weekend in August and The day after Good Friday. So we all can have long weekend.
Any tip apart from being sick.

It's a long time til August and I'm sure they'll need somebody to dig them out sometime before then. Keep your eyes and ears open and be prepared to offer to cover some s**t duty when they're desperate in return for the day off you want. The other option, which sometimes happens in my office, is to find somebody whose day off is the Saturday and won't swap you and offer them cash to do your shift. £50-£70 should be enough and you've got 3 months to save it up.

Catch 22 situation
Once you have asked for they day everyone knows your intentions and going sick is too obvious

Tell the DOM you're checking out TNT's way of doing things over there ahead of them bidding for Royal Mail, so it's a sort of business trip and in his interests to release you.Darren Bent wrote:I am going to Amsterdam in August Bank holiday weekend. When a DOM shows me their medically qualified to assess the merits or lack of a medical professionals diagnosis then I'll think about taking any notice of them. I believe that an OPG off with stress was told by his GP to go on holiday and they did... Cyprus I think! :)tojobevred wrote:well u need to get permission off ur dom and likely answer will beIndy wrote:That can't be right? (d) An absent employee shall remain at their normal home address (other than to receive in-patient treatment) unless they have consent of their line or local personnel manager. Employees who are sick immediately before they are due to go on holiday must confirm to their Line Manager that they are going on holiday on the due date (unless sick absence continues and the employee remains at home). We also have to ensure that we are taking the appropriate steps to ensure we are providing the relevant support to our employees by using our health care professionals, Atos Origin. By maintaining this contact we can also look at alternatives. i.e. alternative indoor duties.
In the cases where this process is not followed for no known reason, Managers could take steps to hold an employees pay and change their absence from Sick absence to Unauthorised absence.

I understand WHY RM do it (to stop abuse) but each case would need to looked at on its merits a blanket ban could be construed to be unfair.fishtank wrote:Indy wrote:
