Can you be suspended for raised voice ?

hello Can you be suspended for raised voice at one of the supervisors! I was having a discussion today with one of the supervisors and they started shouting at me ,I said why are you shouting and i said this in a raised voice and then was threatened in the words " You will be suspended in a minute for shouting).?

I think you could be suspended, especially the way Royal Mail operate. However, as long as you had witnesses you would have had a very chance of being reinstated. Managers should NOT raise their voice - a good leader should not raise their voice to any subordinate unless to address an immediate safety hazard. No way should they raise their voice and then threaten someone with suspension when they react in kind.

This single incident highlights the fact that Royal Mail most significant weakness is that it does not train managers to be leaders, but only to be supervisors with a budget. When/If we are privatised then anyone who does takes us on must address this otherwise RM wont exist as a going concern within a decade.

Bit like those TV shows about the airlines..... They wind them up treat them like s**t....and then when someone gobs off at the receptionists you get the, "If you raise your voice to me I'll call my supervisor!" This winds the customer up even more and then they get the, "I'm not putting up with this abuse, I'm refusing to deal with you!"

This has the added advantage, to the company, that they never have to actually sort any problems out. If you keep your cool and deal with them calmly they can just wind you up by not addressing your problem.

Why would you be suspended?
Suspension is not supposed to be used as a disciplinary punishment.
It is a precautionary measure to protect either you,your colleagues,the mail or Royal Mail's good name.
Could any of those honestly be said to be at risk when you simply raised your voice?
I don't really think so.

Doesnt it work both ways? If a supervisor is shouting at you shouldnt that also be counted as threatening behavior or intimidation?

Lol ive been here a while so my innocence is long gone! Along with my diginity, self respect and my back seems to be on the way out as well

Its incidents like this why i have voice recorder added as a short cut on my phone so i can access it quickly,
anytime i'm invited into the office, it gets switched on,
i'm not sure of the legalities though, i believe its illegal to video (for evidential purposes) someone without their permision, but recording audio is ok !?
can someone clarify ?

Employers

The Employment Tribunal has previously in certain circumstances permitted these recordings, such as where the Employer is a public body. Employers should take preventative measures by amending Employment Contracts to explicitly exclude employees from recording hearings and ensure the decision making body retains its confidential notes of the discussions, but which are not disclosed unless matters proceed to a hearing. An Employment Tribunal would not want to hinder open discussion by the decision maker for fear of being recorded, but it has happened.

I don't think they have an official stance but from a personal point of view if i was going to record a disciplinary meeting i would make sure that both parties were aware of it,agreed to it...and make it clear that it was simply for the purpose of keeping clear detailed notes of the meeting.
