Customer Request

Post by Exorcist »

At our WTL session yesterday we were informed that under no circumstances are we allowed to leave parcels in customers "safeplaces" such as boxes or sheds or outside toilets etc and that if there is nobody to recieve the item it must be D/L and returned to office.
Is this happening in all depots or just mine ?.
(Tracked items can be left if it states "leave in safeplace" on the item.)
I have a good number of customers who have asked me to leave parcels in safeplaces as they are at work and cannot get to the office to collect so they will be pretty pissed off at this latest "ideas in action" ruling. :arrrghhh

No item including tracked items (whether they state leave in a safe place or not) is to be left in a so called safe place :no no , Royal Mail is looking to get rid of staff whenever they can, don't give them the opportunity. Return all items to the D.O. do it by the book.

thing is, part of my delivery is on an army camp and on average i 'll have 40+ packets every day (bored wifes on ebay) for the camp alone. quiet often no ones in so i leave the item in their shed. theres no way im bringing the items back for them to re arrange a delivery for the saturday, i'd have a van rammed full of packets to do, as well as the huge amount of mail i have to cope with. f**k em anyway.............

Familiar with the "Army Quarters Scenario", IMO it boils down to how they treat you. If I get Gobbed Off at by them...I return it to the Office....If they treat me fairly I'll try and leave it. However as West London says...Cover your own arse! Don't give them an excuse.

I look on issuing 739s as safe guarding the jobs of those that work in the cage! :Very Happy my aim is take out a van full of packets and then bring them all back :dance It also stops the idle buggers from spending too much time throwing their next days walk off! :no no

It also proves that just because you send someone out in a van, it doesn't mean your going to get the parcels delivered. :arrrghhh The moral of the story is if you order stuff to be delivered make sure someone's in to receive it! :Very Happy

We've been told not to leave items in 'safeplaces' the only exception are Tracked items that state where they are to be left.

I frequently leave stuff in suitable locations (not door-stepping), sometimes requested by people, sometimes not.. Not had a complaint (yet!) I use my own judgement, if I didn't I'd spend even more time on delivery. If people are twats then it does get 739'd. :Very Happy

We've been told not to, numerous times, mind you been told not to step over walls and lots of other things too - I do the job my way to make my life (and the customers) simple and efficient.

I have tended to do the same Slave, but that is all going to end as we are heading for later starts and I will defo be cutting off as I do not want to do overtime in the heat of the summer sun and cannot see f..ck all in the late Winter afternoons, so will definitely be doing everything by the book from now on. Should leave plenty for the DOM to do.

Not worth going against the official proceedure, unless you have a legally binding contract with your customers to pay you the same wages if dismissed for "helping them out."

They told us that the customer had to put it in writing if they wanted to designate a safe place. Which covers both postie and RM.

Does it really though mazza?
Maybe the postie but it certainly doesn't cover Royal Mail.
After all the customer is the sender and it would be them, not the recipient who would be pursuing Royal Mail for compensation....and they don't have any written agreement that you can dump their goods in the blue bin..

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

Hit nail on the head HTB! :Very Happy I used to get stressed every time someone wasn't in...now it's just take out your 739 and spend 3 or 4 minutes writing it out. When the DIM says, "You've taken longer than usual today!", I just take out the sign for sheets and show all the little crosses! :dance

If a neighbour comes out and says, "They're not in do you want me to sign for it?" I say, "No Thanks...I've just filled a card out for them!"

We were told the exact same thing by our lino not so long ago. But when Royal mail is refusing to add more safe drops (we are pre revision) and dodging paying you for going over writing out cards all day, how are you supposed to follow all these new rules 100% of the time? I bet some big wig in the office has seen the cost for missing packets and decided we need to reduce the bill for X million £ compensation. But writing out cards, cage staff and redeliveries probably cost twice the amount! Plus maybe 1 in 1000 customers getting annoyed at a missing parcel has now turned into 1 in 10 customers getting annoyed at the postie not reading their signs and leaving their worthless packet in the shed! :d'oh!

mail needs to be pushed completely through the letter box
We had a meeting about dogs today telling us all the usual bull about shaking gates etc. But yet they put out instructions like this!?! I have at least 11 houses on my walk with those silent dogs who wait for you to start putting letters in the box before going bananas and try to ram through the door to eat you! lol what do you think the chances of me putting my hands in them letter boxes? :hmmmm
