Mail centre strikes....

Was talking to another postie who thought that if the London mail centres vote and go on strike then its going to have huge implications even for those not involved.... how so I asked? he basically said RM aren't going to pay the posties supplied by striking mail centres to do nothing so will in all likelyhood send them home or similar which would giver them another stick to beat he rest of the country with.

Anyone any thoughts?

If they send you home because there is no work they still have to pay as far as I know.

You turned up prepared to work. The employer didn’t have any – the reasons are immaterial, so that’s their fault not yours. They can only force you to take leave or work extra to make up the time lost if they are allowed to by an express clause in your contract. If they don’t pay you for the shift then that is an unlawful deduction of wages and you should take out a grievance.

The main problem will be if they divert work to you from a striking MC - or send you there to do their work.

If this happens then we must refuse to touch any mail from offices on I/A and must never cross a picket line, if it means escalation then so be it.

The problem is last time London went out some offices took the work on docket.

Blacklisted mail is a big issue and it puts others in a big dilema,but docket?
