IWT

I know there has already been discussion on this topic, but we had an office meeting today with the DOM and the area and div rep.

The usual accusations by the DOM is that we are all too slow and nobody should be booking/cutting off etc.

Now, I asked to look at the prep rate figures that they are using in out office and I realise the mail changes every day and the amount of people on the IPS may well be different to what they say.
I only looked at it briefly as there was lots of heated arguments going on, but I did notice that they had letters down as 20 per minute and D2D'S down as 26 per minute.

Please tell me that the union didn't agree to those figures as we have had it if they have?

We have no rep, so I sort of agreed to start going into the resource meetings and I will see how it goes.

I know I will chat to my area rep, but it seems like you get more info on this site.

I can't see how you can plan accurately how long we are on the IPS and to do our own prep if the starting figures are unrealistic to begin with.

Apparently, there is a list where it says how long it should take each walk to prep. Now, you may be able to say one walk needs more prep than another regardless of the prep rates as it would be applied to all walks, but it would still be unrealistic if the prep rates are too high.

If I do go to these resource meetings what are the best arguments to use against management deciding we are all too slow?

Take a gun in with you.
They don't listen to reason.

if he says your too slow ask for training to bring you all up to there speed. The last time i was trained on ips was when i first joined 20 odd years ago.It is their duty to make sure your trained on the sorting, ask to go back to training school.

Are you "too slow" on IPS or frame prep?
Or both?

No, I am not saying that I am too slow on anything, but at this office meeting this morning the DOM admitted she wants to stop people booking and cutting off.
She says the IWT says that we should be able to do that.

My argument is that the figures they were using to calculate how long we should be on the IPS and to prep our own walk didn't look realistic.

I only saw it briefly, but the IWT said letters at 20 and D2D'S at 26. This clearly is unachievable for any throughput time and the D2D'S at 26 just ridiculous.

What I am asking is that are there people on here who regularly go to resource meetings and are you having these types of arguments?

I can only assume that management have made up there own figures for the IWT as I cannot believe the union would have agreed to them.

If the throughput letters were at 15 and the D2D'S at 12 per minute I could take it more seriously.

Activity Equipment Check Rate

Number per minute
Letter Sorting 48 box 34
56 box 31
63 box 35
64 box 31

Packet Sorting DBF 18

Flat Sorting 48 box Impact 28

Packets Handstamp 16

Preparation RM 2000 25 letters

These are the Individual Performance Standards.
It seems in some areas they have downdialled these figures by 10% and are using this new figure as a planning tool.

Arguments?
Is sufficient time being allocated to clearing down full boxes?
Are you sorting flats into letter frames?
Is sufficient time being allocated to clearing down full/overweight drop bags?
Are your frames single slot or double slot?
Are they clearly labelled/fit for purpose?
Is time allocated to distributing walksorted trays?
Is your Aplus up to date? Do you often get mail for other walks? Is time allocated to returning missorts?
Are people double prepping? Are they trained and fully up to speed on their second frame?
The societies of consumption and squandering of material resources are incompatible with the idea of economic growth and a clean planet.

The IWT is supposed to run every day, but we haven't really had anybody from within the office to check anything.

Because of the meeting we had today I said I would start to go to the resource meetings and take an interest in the meetings.
I wanted to know what the union had agreed to as from the brief look at the figures I did manage to see today, they looked way too high.

However, seeing some of the postings on here it looks like I was right, they are way too high, but are agreed by the union.

How good the union possibly agree to those D2D figures? Even if you say that they are 'should be' times, well they are totally unrealistic.

No wonder the DOM thinks we are all slow.

How on earth can I defend accusations that any of us are slow if the union are agreeing to figures that a robot couldn't manage?

4 minutes to stick 83 D2D in a frame.
It isn't that unrealistic. How long do you think it takes?

As teebs pointed out it's not the single contract that's the problem,it's when you get to 4,5 and 6 that it becomes challenging.
14mins to collate and sort almost 500 items is pushing it.

I don't understand the rationale behind the idea that you get quicker with each new set of d2ds you're throwing out. How does that work? Surely you get slower due to the items in the frame obstructing you.
