At my unit, we are having great difficulty getting ad hoc days off. These days include weddings, birthdays etc.
People are applying for a day off 2-4 months in advance and its still getting declined by HR. We resort to our line managers to try and sort cover out, and normally they do sort it for us, by asking members of staff if they can cover. To the disapproval of the HR/Admin team.
The excuse is they can't cover it. We use agency alot now for MVG and processing duties so I don't swallow that one.
Would I be able to put a grievance in against HR?

Where does Sam work and what has HR got to do with booking AL?
I Wrote-During Covid-Which is still relevant now
It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.
My BFF Clash
The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

Sam works in the NE.POSTMAN wrote:Where does Sam work and what has HR got to do with booking AL?
They call them selfs "Hr"
Two people plan out the leave.
Person a will gather and plot the leave year. And does not have a issue with adhoc leave.
Person b(it thinks the leave belongs to it) will over rule person a and decline any adhoc leave requests.
Royal mail give you x amount of leave. It should not be upto person b when you can have it.
Anyways we are pissed off with the system in place and I want to confront it! We do have a new union rep as the old one was voted out,

Re: Annual Leave
Sam i meant what 'function' cause of the HR thing.
Rule of thumb tbh is,if a week is fully booked then you've blown it unless you have a really understanding screw who would give you the odd day off.
But what seems to be happening is if the weeks are 'not' fully booked then most screws still do not give out the 'odd days' just in case 3 months down the line there is a few on sick.
Now that's bollox and should imo be challenged.
Another rule of thumb is get the holiday sheet/book have a crafty look to see if what you want is fully booked,if it is then.........well you know.
