Lapsed Duties
Can anybody properly explain lapsing? A method of getting posties to fill their duty times. All the onus is on the postie to guess what time they are going to finish, if they guess they will finish early, they have to guess how much lapse they can take. If you refuse to lapse and finish early, you get hassled or disciplined. Why is it our responsibillity? The managers should make these decisions and if they misjudge they should be in the s**t for sending you over your time.

Let them then,if the whole office says " Not sure" then the ball is in their court.The managers should make these decisions
And don't work over your time if you don't want to,cut off.

Thats exactly what i do say, but there are loads of new starters and spineless posties who just do what they think will get the managers off their back. There is no communication from the union to adopt this stance.

We have two reps, i spoke to one of them about this, who didnt see my point and thought i was being pedantic about this matter. He beleived that you can accurately gauge what time you are going to finish and can lapse or not accordingly. I told him the only time you know if you can lapse, is after you have finished your duty and not at about 9am when the knobs come round asking "are you lapsing?" He disagreed, what chance do we have, if thats the union?

I leave my lapsing everyday if manager asks me i say will do it when i get back IF i have time.
Most days it gets taken think i've taken it couple times on ot when is wasn't cleared.Its a joke 10 min walk to start point less than 5 minutes to deliver it then another 10 minutes walk back to office.

I cant go over my time, thats my point, my wife starts work at 2pm and we have a kid, so if im late back im screwed. What do you mean you take it and if your over you book it? You honestly mean you have no choice in the matter?

i'd have to agree with royal fail. If you have time to do lapsing after your delivery then it gets done.Otherwise it stays. Not posties fault RM have cut the workforce to the point of not having a bum on every seat is it?

My whole point is that you dont know if you can lapse until you finish. Why do we have to decide what we can before we leave the office?

This should be done at the end of your duty and only if you have the time to do it.
You should not refuse to lapse just state that you will do it at the end of your duty (if you have time) this then puts the presure back on the manager were it belongs.

We do the lapsing bit first. If we go over doing our own duties we claim. If we don't want to claim, we tell the manager and ... well, everybody just claims.
