I've been on a part-time, temporary contract that gets renewed every three months for over a year. How are RM allowed to get away with this?

Please don't say because I signed the contract. Let us look beyond the minutae of legality and into the very real world of paying a mortgage and feeding a family!

It's obscene that a company is allowed to manage it's affairs whith such scant regard for its employees.

Sorry Ninja, it's a fact of life RM don't give a s**t and are determined to drive down their running costs. :sad:

Suggest you find another job and vote with your feet! I know it's easy to say but thing's are not going to improve and RM will just take the piss, until you finally jack. It's immoral I know but the Union that is meant to protect you is just a Toothless has-been and is no longer "Fit for purpose". :mad

On a brighter note, when you get to 2 years service i think RM are obliged to offer you a proper contract. :nana

There is a Ltb about it somewhere.

I thought that'd been increased to 4 years now. But I hope I'm wrong.

It was supposed to be 2 years by agreement...4 years by law.
The agreement side is being "vagued" and "clouded" and generally swept under the table because it's bad news.
Royal Mail only committed to making certain temps permanent....that started before a certain day.....and had been here a certain time......and hadn't been offered another temp contract.
They basically committed to nothing going forward...so you're right...it's 4 years. :cuppa

I Wrote-During Covid-Which is still relevant now
It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

I take it that means after 4 years they'll change your Temporary Part Time contract to a FULL TIME Part Time contract ? :shock:

permanent part-time is a luxury in my office. the only people that have got those are the people that used to be on 40 hour contracts, then they got put on 25 hour temporary contracts and now because of a court case are back on permanent contracts but the permanent is only for 25 hrs per week.

It's sh$te, that's what it is?

When are we all going to come together and make a proper stand!? that's what I want to know!

About three+ years ago a group of rm execs spent a day as guests at the bmw plant in cowley.
they- bmw were at the time implementing rolling part time contracts where you are never secure in your job.
i was not a fly on the wall but i can guess what was discussed.
"tell me again how you deal with unions and gained such a compliant work force".
I'm a postman-and i know where you live.....
