update on dog bite 1-1 meeting

Icame on here last week to say that I had been bitten by a dog,

Yesterday I had to go to the doctors to get a certificate for time off as the wound hasbecome infected , and I am on antibiotics,

Took the sick note in as the doc has signed me till thurs week,

Dim Are you aware of the dog bite procedure, me yes, so why was you not carrying you bag( I thought we suppose to not carry bags, I leave mine on my cycle and just go up the path, otherwise you would be carrying back and packets off the bike each time,
Dim you should have thrown the bag down , well in the real world you could but this dog came round the back of me and bit me so what good would the bag do

I have been bitten with bags on me and without, plus it happens so quick and as I have a fear I just froze,

Dim says there is no log of the dog going for you before,me Yes there is Dim its not on the log sheet by the frame Well it is on a pink card, so we went to have a look and it was
because they had changed the duty they had not updated the other sheet when the new revision came in

Dim I think dom is going to contact Atos, thats ok just let them ring me.

Me What have you done about the owners regarding dogs able to roam straight out onto the road, we sent a letter just the bog standared about keeping the dog in, and if it happens again, we will suspend delivery, this dog has been for me before how many more times has it go to do it before the DIMS take more contructive action, when I get back going to get H&S onto it.

I guess I will be up for stage 1 now as had too much sick off even though nearly all of it has been work related accidents

A bag wont always save you as most dogs attack from behind and they can always move faster than you can. Trouble is how many managers have actually been bitten by a dog on a delivery to fully understand the reasons behind it

The 'put your bag in front of you' suggestion actually worked for me the last time a dog went for me, but as noted, half the time you simply can't react quick enough to protect yourself. On two of the three occasions where I was bitten the dogs more or less came out of nowhere (one came flying out from behind an open door, the other from behind a parked car). I think our DIMs expect us to constantly be in a state of high alert for any potential danger, like some twisted canine version of Clouseau versus Cato.

If wearing the bag correctly, while full of mail, across the body as advised, how fast could many of us get the bag off and in front of us to protect against a dog attack? Fine on one shoulder (as many of us do) but not the way RM advise to carry a bag

I got badly attacked on two separate occasions by the same German Shepherd. Both times I tried to protect myself with my bag, but it's impossible with a dog that size determined to hurt you.

A few years back when we had a decent DOM, I came back from the first delivery and my mate asked me to pop out with him to split the old half a walk and he would give me the money for it.

I was a few minutes into doing it when this collie charged out like a demon from this house and as it shocked me so much I just felt overwhelming anger towards it and tried to kick it in the chops. I missed, but managed to tear my calm so badly that I couldn't move from the spot.

My mate had to finish off the bit I was supposed to be helping him with, but the DOM put me on the overtime sheet so that it could go down as an AOD.
I had to have 3 weeks off.

If you really want to deter dog attacks you need to use a Rolf.



Dogs won't go within 100 yards of a Rolf....he is the Grim Reaper of family pets.
Five minutes after this picture was taken....little timmy the dog was no more...
