I find it quite disgraceful, the lack of training new recruits get in delivery, someone asked me what it was like 35 years ago when I first started, I was put on a round for a week, shadowed by a postman, who showed me everything, I then stayed on that walk for about a year, it was an early and late on a two week rotate, but it built your confidence up, I then moved to be a reserve, doing different walks, my training standing me in good stead to do other walks, then came the DRIVING!!! with all the senior men, they learned me even more, for example on our late week, we had to do sorting at the end of our shift, it was a bay of letters and away when you finished, but once you finished you moved on to help your colleague next to you, woe betide you if you still had a lot of letters left, you were soon told to shift yourself and you got better, but it was yet again more training, we policed ourselves, today, we do not do that, and new recruits bear the brunt of no help when they come into the job, no wonder so many leave!!! have written to moya about it, lets see what she says!!!!

my duties were early shift, 6.50am- 14.00 middle shift. non driving 10.24- 19.00 late shift 12.54-21.30pm, we did get away a bit early as a result of doing bay and away, the logic behind it I suppose, was they got more sorting done that way!!!

i agree, the training you dont recieve is shocking. i was once sent out on a round after having zero training, made a mis-delivery then hauled into the managers office to be told that this was my verbal warning, it would go all formal the next time it happened. what a f***ing joke !!!. this companys a sinking ship, just wish i could find a way to jump off.....

How can there be no training for newbies when we have work place coaches and we have won awards for our training of staff.

First day got shown the first 2 streets down here up there on the left and find the rest as you go ' what a training manual lol Our Rep is supposed to do the training, we all recently found out that he's been getting paid extra for doing it. But the last few yrs its been other Posties doing the training but for nothing, place was in an uproar, but its a case of who you know etc... another fiddle i'd say!

We had a training walk when i started over 20 years ago. It was great just a few roads and an easy bike ride from the office. You stayed on it till someone else started which was only a couple of weeks in my case. You then shadowed a postie for a week.

Now we have a coach but thats only for a week and then your on your own, Sink or swim time

I was a driver, that was my 3 week rotate, other drivers stated at 6.15am, our was 6.50am sign in get van, go to lobby, help walk postman tie up van delivery, do van dely, 9.00am collection, sorting, or a special trip, 1pm collection, after which you went home.... simples!!!

Yep, ours is still on his tenner extra a week (or whatever it is now) and still hasn't been out with any new recruits after all this time.

The massive plasma with built in dvd still plays happily with itself all day.

The courier still spews out it's incessant shite.

Let's save some money here.

It's the way forward.
