1 day off sick

i need a bit of advice, i only work on saturdays as a postman i'm on a permananent contract since 2008 and i phoned in sick for this coming saturday and my manager wants a sick note,to my knowledge any absence 7days or less you dont need one. it's not a problem getting the sick certificate as i have hurt my ankle but i feel like my manager thinks i'm stupid any advoce pls.

Not sure, but if you go to your Doctors for a sick note before the 7 days, he does it private and there is a charge possibly £70. Ask him if Royal Mail will cover any costs incurred,

They can't refuse a self certificate for the first week. So go pick one up and fill it in.

The problem is that you've told your manager that you will be sick in advance of the day in question, so he is in the right to ask you for a sick note confirming you are indeed sick,
it would have been better for you if you had just rung in on Saturday to say you were sick,
On Saturday just ring the Bookroom and confirm that you will not be coming in as you are sick, when you return to work collect a self cert from the Bookroom and fill it out, If your Manager pushes the issue just say that you first told him you might be sick on the Saturday to give him some warning.

Surely you just fill in the self cert the DOM gives you on your return to work chat?

I'd phone up HR to be sure and quote them if they say it is fine to do a self cert when you return to work as long as it's within 7 days.

yes you should have rung in first thing on sat morn and said you were sick with ? and youll only be sick for the one day
