Got a question for a CWU Rep? And all CWU related matters.

question regarding day off

I'm down to cover a walk this week where the day off falls on Saturday. The duty holder (whos walk im covering) pre-arranged to swap his Saturday (this week- with another postie in the group) so he could have last Saturday off and the other postie has this saturday off !

It doesn't make no difference to the duty holder though (whos walk im covering) because he is on annual leave this week.

On realisation that the day off on that duty fell on Saturday i approached one of the managers to ask what the crache was regarding me having that day off. He basically said ' as your a leave reserve we (managment) can do what we like' !! :no no and you will have to work it.

So what they've done is - put the day off cover postie onto another duty and left me on the duty he's supposed to be covering!!

So am i within my rights to challenge managment about getting my day off????

if the duty holder has swapped his day of annual leave with another member of staff then that is his own misfortune.

sounds like you have been rolled by either management or the guy in question.

tell them you have something booked and let them sort it.

No the duty holder swapped his Saturday off with another postie who wanted this Saturday off, but the duty holder happens to be on a/l this week so it wouldn't affect him.

Being rolled by the managment again seems about right :no no

It isn't his to swap.
Am I missing something?

The day off goes with the duty...not the duty holder.
Isn't that the argument managers use to stop reserves getting a rota day off?

Reserves covering a duty all week should get the appropriate day off.

The guy is not in a postion to swap the day off if he is on A/L.

Its not his day off.

Im down to cover the duty all week, but have been told - due to being a reserve i can be moved about at random, although im down for being on the duty all week... :no no

We briefly had a line manager who staffed the reserves against fictitious duties to ensure they still got a rota'd day off.
It seemed to work quite well.
He didn't last long.

Reps should be on the case in these situations,but like i said,should.
I Wrote-During Covid-Which is still relevant now
It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

If your on a duty all week an it's due day off is sat then you should be off on sat end off.
yes you do have a case, he can't change duties to suit himself, he can ASK you to change but not force you!!
Our manager tries it all the time!
