I dont know if this will work but I thought that a good way to get the attention of the public was
in a form of an article for the media regarding privatisation.
There always seems to be a lot of people on here with their own opinions and Im sure that some of you
could add your own views as to why we are being privatised, what it means to the public and
what it means to Royal Mail as a service provider for the UK, six days a week.
Once everyone was finished with their views then it could be written up and sent to the papers
where it may be published (depending on the paper) and seen by the public who dont know
what is happening.

Vince Cable, I assume wants his hands on the 26bn pension assets which he will use to show that
the condems are chipping away at the national debt but he doesnt tell anyone about the fact
that the taxpayer will be landed with at least a 34bn bill to repay.
I also assume that prices will spiral upwards as a privatised RM will be looking for some form of profit
to pay dividends to the investor.
The Government is also allowing Offcom to set a fairer payment for DSA and will also allow RM more freedom to
compete with their competitors. This will help RM fight back and will see businesses return to RM.
RM will have a ten year monopoly on delivering the mail as it is being written into the privatisation bill which
will help strengthen it against the competition.
Off topic a bit here but at the moment it looks like an SNP government will return with a larger majority after May 5th and they are against privatisation due to
the rural landscape up here. Will this help stave off privatisation as Mr Salmond is good at making the UK PM look poor as has been seen by the fact the tories
are now wanting to freeze the council tax south of the border whilst we have had this since the SNP got in last term. The Welsh have free prescriptions and the
Scots are about to have this also. How long before a UK PM will also do this since the English will get fed up at being second class citizens. We have free college and university but Cameron & Clegg
are pushing prices up to 9k for south of the border. As I said Mr Salmond is good at stirring up a hornets nest and hopefully come May 5th the ConDems will find out.

Even if there is no article for the paper it would still be interesting to read peoples views on RM & the UK.

If I remember correctly, that was in the fifties, I am also sure it used to be cheaper to post a postcard, and also cheaper to post if you did not seal your letter!
AND, you could but sixpenny savings stamps ! I remember out local postie, (He lived a few doors from us) did the whole village, and his bag was only slightly larger than our school satchels!

Yes, that's right. 2½d for normal sized postcards and unsealed letters and 3d for sealed letters under 2oz were the rates from 1958 to 1964 - so 2d was up to 1958.
