Tracked items

My line manager told me this morning I had not scanned a tracked item. I'm 100% sure I have scanned it and told him so. I came back to the obligatory letter. Has anyone else experienced this? Also, if they can't prove the system is 100%, then they can't prove I have not scanned the item, as its' merely my word against theirs. Am I right or am I wrong?

Oh, I haven't opened it yet but it will be the same as the last one I got when I genuinely missed scanning a tracked, saying that I am not up to the required standard and may need retraining. I've delivered 100's of tracked items and only missed one, but got a letter saying I was not up to the required standard. That's why I make sure I scan every one now. In other words, they now expect 100% efficiency from everyone.
What I'm trying to find out is if anybody else has experienced the same. Given the problems we have with PDA's, are they telling me the system is foolproof? If it's not, then he can't prove I've not scanned it, when I say I have.

Your question is one that pops up on here quite a lot.
Are managers bound by the burden of proof?
The answer is unfortunately....no.
Just reasonable assumption.
He assumes that you didn't scan it and given that the PDA is 99% accurate...he deems it a reasonable assumption.
It doesn't mean he is right....but it doesn't matter either.

I don't even understand the point of them myself - drivers scan them and either doorstep them (what's to stop them being nicked) or give them to us to deliver later in the day.

Not allowed to doorstep them, your drivers need to read the rules again. The only ones that you can leave are the ones with specific instructions to do so (ie. leave in garage, leave at number 22 etc.).

Nor should they put the onus on someone who hasn't got a PDA - we had an instance where the driver showed the packet as delivered and the postie shoved it through the wrong door in the wrong street................................. guess what?
