H+S Severe Weather

Whist this topic has regularly been mentioned,I would like to know if anybody in the CWU has H +S responsibility.
Also what is the knowledge in the top CWU of WAlking Postmen?

This week the weather has been just a bit hot ,and in the middle of your walk around midday very tough going.

Now look into the Future ,say come the main summer months the Temp really does get proper hot.
Now the official advise from every one other than RM and CWU is do not go out in the miday Sun.
Now in contray to logic,RM are pushing delivery start times back later and later.

Most days now we do not start delivering till almost 11.00clock, with further possible later starts just round the corner,
iS their any senior CWU person who has any knowledge of walks in the last 6 months,If so why do they not look into working outside ,under a tight deadline and possible bullying managers,about why we are going against the officialy advice and working in the hottest part of the day.

More Fluid intake = more toilet breaks, = lest delivery time,
WHY IN HEAVENS NAME? If the CWU are really intrested in the members is not something done reagrding deliverys in
severe weather?

I would have thought their would be a good H+ S safety case for early delivery times in severe hot weather.
It looks to me all the time the senior CWU officials have no knowledge of recent deliveries and still rember the good old days and have their head stuck in the sand,many people beleive that.

Why can the CWU not prove to their members that they take H+S seruioulsy I dont just mean wearing hi viz vest and cycle helmet.
This is just a pipe dream,till someone has a serious heat stroke ,even then nothing will be done,In icy weather a number of
injuries when we should not be out delivering yet not a word from cwu then.

How do you get a nice cushy CWU job sitting in a office ,drinking tea and saying how bad things are ?
lets have action not words!

if i had a choice in the summer months,start 5am 1st letter 7am,last letter 12-1230 pm ,rest of the afternoon off simple really cant see why it cant go back to the good old days

Royal Mail also have a duty of care toward their staff so i cant see what difference it will make if the CWU have anything to say,most of the top CWU bods have not done a delivery in years and i think if you look at the size of some it would be a dead give away,Royal Fail do give some advice under their weather policy they tell you to try and stay in the shade as much as possible which i would take you only deliver one side of the street stuff the rest,they don't really care and i don't think anyone is under any illusion on that score.

I absolutely love this weather. It's wonderful! Long may it last.

Now the December we've just been through is a different matter altogether.

I remember seeing something last year about, "Try to avoid delivering the mail during the hottest part of the day" perhaps RM are advocating a siesta?
When in HOT climates we always used to start early in the Forces. Of course we do still have a few assholes who manage to buck the system, come in at 05.30 and finish at 11.30! So I suppose they're following RM's advice.

I got sunburnt today and I was using SPF 30. I noticed on the back of the bottle it advises not to be out in the sun between 11am-3pm, nice one RM!

I worked on a building site a few years back which we had big problems with heat. Our company provided everyone with extra water and gave them extra paid breaks to make sure people wernt getting too drowsy and having accidents! Sounds like a good start for us dont you think? Bet all the runners would just work through the extra breaks to finish early though!

You are your own health and saftey rep...know your guidliness and work accordingly...if the work load is too much..get the doctors opinion befor relaying info to line manager.
