I have worked for RM for 3 years and think i am a easy going sort of person willing to help out when needed etc.. etc .. etc.. , but over that period of time have noticed that there is an unsavoury attitude to PT STAFF, From certain FT staff , i understand from what i hear it didnt used to be as bad as it is now but i dont think this PT staffs fault, I conclude that being a postman used to be a menial job, and FT staff feel threatened by new staff coming in on PT hours , this will only speed up the demise of RM as they know it, Long termers wake up , a thirty year badge and a few vouchers wont buy me....; you are defeating yourselves.

Some full timers have reason to be crabby - they may end up with, or have already been given, eight hours work to do.
I have my 30 year badge and I wouldnt like to do any of the `full up` FT rounds in my office. I do 6 hours a day now pt but my round isnt 2 hours less than most of the rounds - I`m not the one moaning though , FT moan because I go home before them. Roll on the revision.

Full timer has a dead mans job now,when he/she gone replaced by whatever..eventualy a fine line will be drawn between full timers and part timers and that will result in a reversal more part timers then full timers.

one full time = 40hrs , 2 PT = 50 hrs probably doing 70hrs in fear of losing there temp contracts , whos the mug, when it coms to the sell off every PT member of staff will be fired, excess baggage gets dumped.

LOL, youve answered your own question about mugs

each of your P/T only costs RM 25hrs pay for 35hrs work whilst you cost them 40hrs pay for the same 40 hrs work.

Why would RM get rid of the cheapest option?

Being a postman didn't become a menial job or task,in-fact it's quite the opposite!
I don't really know what your point/thread is trying to ask??
As a full-time postman myself,i certainly don't feel 'threatened' by newcomers/part-timers.
Just a thought for you,when some HR person advertises for a position,do they even know what the job entails?
we have had people who are contracted to work 9.30 starts,but once they get to the D.O they are actually told that they need to come in earlier!
What i'm trying to say is,there is a school of thought within RM,remember the old sketch,i look down on him because.
Well,most full-time walk-men/women,will always tell you how easy the drivers have it,and in turn they will then look down on the part-tiimers and say how easy they have it.
My posts on here are fairly inoffensive,but i for one would never take a job on a contract of 25hours,and i think this is where a lot of the resentment comes from.

Well I'm full time and feel no threat from the PTmers in our office.... most of them walk around dragging thier knuckles on the floor with a confused look on thier faces so what's to fear?

From my own experience i think that sometimes full timers can be a bit misunderstood as well. I found that even in my short time with Royal mail part timers seem to come and go quite often because the job is so poor leading to full timers not really taking any notice of you at first! after almost a year at rm other staff do start to respect you a lot more. They still try to cheat me at every opportunity but at least they say hello in the morning!

I guess you also have to take into account is that as the job gets worse the decent people will find something else. Eventually i think it will just be the wierdos and unsavoury characters left!

It must of been my day off when you came to my office conducting your nationwide extensive survey of full-time staff's opinions! Without wanting to pop your balloon,take the jam out your donut or indeed piss on your bonfire,i feel i must declare myself outside your stereotypical view of us full-timers!

I myself,view part-time staff as of the same species as myself,who merely work less hours in the week than me! That's me all over though,always like to be different!

As one who has come from being full time (40 hrs) to PT (30 hrs) , I have not experienced any problems with FT peeps. The only (and I mean only) thing that might be of concern is that the Bag drop drivers are nonplussed as to why you are not ready when everyone else is. I actually think that is because they don't know that you are PT (and whyy should they)

I actually think it has nothing to do with whether people are FT or PT. I think in any job it takes time to fit in and the bigger the office the more difficult it can be.

I remember when I started as PT 18 years ago most people were polite enough to me, but it takes time to fit in and you have to try and make more of an effort with people when you are new I believe.

You will always get arses in any job and it makes no difference whether they are FT or PT. Personally I prefer to give everyone a chance and go out of way to speak to the new guys as I know it's tough for them.

It's always easy to generalise and let's face it we get enough of that because of the media. The job can be hard enough without us creating problems between each other because of a minority of rude and ignorant people.
