If royal mail announced compulsary redundancies in London would you support I/A in your office/area??

Unfortunately I have to say no, there is way too much bad feeling in my area directed at the CWU to get people to take IA in support of London, there are too many stories about how London have it better than everyone else (not saying they're true but the stories are out there) and most of the people in my office wouldn't piss on a MC worker if they where on fire atm.

Regardless how people feel about London this has to be a YES to any compulsary redundancies within Royal Mail. I simply could not stand by and do nothing whilst someone gets chucked on the dole for no good reason.

Don't for one moment let anyone tell you that this is just a "London thing". If RM can get away with compulsory redundancies in London they'll do it nationally! We all need to be out on strike over this.

Being from Essex not too far from London, the ripples reach us quite quickly, but if RM get there way on this kiss goodbye to your jobs as they will just pick off offices like they try to do now,
If nothing else we need to stick togther on this one,

I voted no for the agreement and thought top union messed up when they called the strike off,
my own office very rarlily sticks togther,

The only problem I do see is that we are coming into summer months and not sure if it has the same impact.

To be more meaningful there should have been six options ;
Working in London - Yes
Working in London - No
Working in London - Unsure
Working outside London - Yes
Working outside London - No
Working outside London - Unsure
and I would hazard a guess that the first and fifth ones would get the most votes.

The poll is meaningless because members,especially in the affected areas will be asked to support IA long before Royal Mail announce anything officially.

I think it would have been more interesting if the options were..
Would you take IA if...

1)The LDC and HQ told you there would probably be Compulsory Redundancies in London if not enough people take VR and no-one wants to transfer or there are not enough jobs to transfer into or no-one wants to transfer to deliveries or not enough jobs can be found in deliveries or the distance members are expected to travel is too great as to constitute a reasonable offer.....basically because the numbers don't add up.

2)There actually were Compulsory Redundancies in London.

That's the basic question.
Not whether you would fight Compulsory Redundancies...it would be idiotic not to.
...but how much credibility both the LDC and HQ have outside London?

I have a very uneasy feeling that if RM take the decision to go down the compulsory redundancy route then they'll ram it through. The short term pain of I/A will be written off as the cost of doing business.

Look at RMs attitude during the last bout of I/A they were going to take it all the way. Can people afford to regularly lose a noticeable proportion of their salary with the thought that the CWU might cave in X £1000's of lost wages later for no benefit to the average OPG?

I still think that there is a huge amount of bitterness towards the CWU. It'll be interesting to see how things swing IF the CWU does ballot for I/A this time....
