Actually yes it could, depends on what duties it says you can do and if there are such duties available in the office to do, if no available work then you would be classed as sick and count as absence, just cause you are willing to work doesn't except you from accumulating absence

So if you had a light duties note saying 3/4 of a walk a day they could stage warn you for that.

In that one case I would say not - if your doing the 3/4 of a walk that is - or even less if circumstances mean you cant (heavy day high call rate etc)

What zx135 meant I think is if the sick note (now called a fit note) said fit to do indoor duties only, no heavy lifting or elongated periods of walking, but there was no capacity within the office for you to do a duty like that then you would be classed as sick.

However, a decent manager would not stage you because the idea behind stageing is to manage your absences and to try and improve your attendance. If you have tried to return to work under a fit note but there is no work for you then I would think it would be "mechanistic" for it to be issued. Most managers would appear to issue it though, its like they have a bonus for no of stages issued.

ok if youre going to get a stage for attending work on light duties STAY AT HOME and get one issued properly

If Royal Mail agree to amended duties due to a fit note you are considered to be attending work and would not trigger a stage warning.
If they refuse to adhere to the fit note,in which case they will send you home sick....... it is vital that you ask for the reasons in writing.
