in our office cars are banned . a bloke used his car on saturday last week and has been suspended do you think this is harsh or justified ? unless cars are banned nationaly this shouldnt have been a conduct issue he only used it the one day on sat he was on the van all week

If your office has been through a delivery methods revision and the method of delivery had been decided as P&L or HCT, then yes it is a disciplinary case BUT even if the revision had NOT taken place but the use of private vehicles had been withdrawn for your office then it is still a disciplinary issue. Presumably he was using his car because he was in a rush because it was Saturday

the funny thing about it was 3 months ago he wrote a car off going to deliver his overtime what a first class muppet

If the guy is lucky he might face either "refusing a reasonable request" or "failure to follow procedure" and get away with a serious.
If he's unlucky it could be "Deliberate disregard of health, safety and security procedures or instructions" and that can add up to gross misconduct.....and that could be summary dismissal.
Precautionary suspension from duty is a worrying sign...

No he's one of these who knows that the best way to fight unachievable workloads is...to actually put up a fight....not buy a faster car.

It’s nonsense... in other areas of the country the use of cars is allowed, and encouraged by the management, and carefully ignored by the local union representatives.

It’s a post code lottery as to whether private cars are banned or encouraged, but to sack one person in one area and yet condone widespread use of the car in another area makes not only the Royal Mail management, but the CWU as well, a shambolic partnership.
