Have to say I go through bad spells at RM but the last 6 months have been particularly bad but the worse thing is I can't see anything getting any better.

RM have slashed all the 'slack' out of the job in the revision so when its heavy you know your in for a nightmare. Got 2 A4 thinish magazines 'every door' mailing and water bills for Monday along with 5 d2d. Have been told that the week after next anyone claiming extended will have to be interviewed the next day.... read 'be bullied, harassed and threatened' etc into not claiming. I've been left gob-smacked at my line-manager attitude to the amount of work.... his answer is always "your not working fast enough" "I've seen the volume figures and there hardly any work today" despite my frame groaning under the weight. I'm NOT a slacker, I'll bust my arse to get it all done but there is a limit. I know that there under pressure but still.

Theres a DOM that loves an argument and any sort of confrontation who's attitude and demeanour is hugely hostile and threatening. Mention 'cut off' and you feel that your jobs on the line if not there and then then the one time when you make a genuine mistake.... they'll get their revenge.

I have no problem what so ever with hard work but the whole atmosphere at work now is one of dread and low low moral. I just want to say it the day after day after day of this constant pressure, I've NEVER EVER done a sickie but I feel like calling in sick just so I don't have to deal with it. Who can you go to in RM to say "please can you look into this" and get it properly looked at? I've heard that the area manager was spoken to but 'rumour' has it that they are 'scared' of this DOM hence nothing is ever done. Loads of complaints/grievances have been lodged and nothing has ever happened.

I'll stop my ramble now but any advice would be very greatly appreciated!

You cannot talk to anybody, my friend, because the overwhelming number of cases exactly like this suggests that this is policy. Not 'policy policy', where it's written down, but 'policy policy.' And nobody, inside or out, cares because it's Royal Mail. Bad publicity is good publicity because of the way they want to go. Unhappy staff are good staff because of the way they want to go. This is the future.

If you have one hundred percent confidence in your working ability then ask your manager to come out with you and see if he can point out where you are going wrong . I would say in most cases this will make them back off .
Managers are under pressure but the use of bullying and harassment just shows they aren't able to do the job they are payed to do and manage and they are the one's at fault not you .

. RM have taken out the slack and expect you to work the hours you are paid , but they can't make you work your breaks or past your finishing time . Your manager is probably putting pressure on you because your giving him the signals that you will take his crap . Try taking back your liberty for a few weeks , see how it goes . You might be surprised and might gain some respect from others and from yourself . It's like standing up to a school bully , short term pain for long term gain .

Try your colleagues.
It is easy for management to pick off a few individuals. It's not so easy to pick off a workforce.
Unity is strength and all that.

It's sort of good to realise that it is happening all over as you start to think it is just in your place.
I have gone sick this last week as I was totally chessed off for being called to the office because I had cut off 3 times in 3 and a half months.
They even counted my mail twice when I was on break.
Now I know that they are out of order and only bullying me because I am one of only 3 people in our office doing the job correctly, and they may well have been told to do this, but I have taken out a grievance against the DOM and will insist as it my right to see their boss.

I will fight my corner and I can show their figures are all wrong and can say that they are using and unagreed prep rate measure when only the 1 minute is agreed, but unless the Union get this stopped at the highest level then it is going to continue.

Because in offices where only a few are doing the job correctly you will get blamed for going slow and without good Union backing they will get you out as they will say you need training and then say you didn't improve after that.

You, like myself know it's a stitch up as practically everybody in my office passed the prep test and only a very few will in reality be too slow, but you could be the fastest in your office, but due to many circumstances where you can't make the unachievable achievable, you will still be told you are too slow because you are causing them problems.

Funny how they kept preaching that they only wanted us to do the job properly and work our hours.

I only wish we had a strong office and showed them that most walks wouldn't complete, but that is not the case.

i can understand where your coming from, ROYAL MAIL is a joke to work for, they think they own you and then beat you down to do as they say, i fooking hate it. how managers can be so evil i do not know, i wonder if they treat thier own family the same way, i bet not. there is no hope working for royal mail its slavery now. while management give themselfs bonuses..
i sometimes wonder to call it a day just to get the death in service payment to my family,, just to to try and fight back some way.. but human life to royal mail is like worthless ........... its so so sad its come to this...

We are in the middle of a revision where the object is to lose 40 hours
Why are we not calling a spade a spade?
A revision could in theory put duties back in to an office if the fact finding proved it.
but as we know "revisions" only go one way now and would be more accurately described as culls,increases in workload
downsizing, etc
office is close to failing most days( rm like that ) as its maximum profit with minimum staff but the true cost is
poor worker relations and stress
Its getting everybody down in our office ,the relentless faceless bureaucracy that listens to none, does its own thing
while union stands idly by.

Don't let RM ground you down, if you do they have won and there is more to life than RM, just look around at the family you have, the best way you can help them is to stick around and love them, there are other ways you can fight back and get RM.

Because for some people this isn't an option as they don't like confrontation, especially with the bully boy managers we have in charge these days.

Unfortunately it is too easy to say 'work to your time etc' as they are hauling people in for cutting off and going over. They will accuse you of having a slow prep rate and may ask if you need training. This would be funny as apart from throwing your walk off everyday, what other training would they give you?

I would say that is just a way to get rid of you. They also try and say you are slower than somebody else who has been tested. This person probably comes in really early anyway.

Their whole testing procedure is flawed. They and us don't even know what a good rate is because there isn't one beyond the 1 minute test.
So they are saying you are slow based on what?

They don't even count D2D'S or test the whole office, yet have started to bully only those who do the job properly and cause them problems.

They are deliberately targeting people who are going over or cutting off due to volumes of mail and/or being on the IPS for too long. They are not even thinking this whole flawed bullying policy through.

They would be laughed out of court for their pathetically unprofessional way they go about things, but it is a reality that people are getting bullied for doing their jobs correctly and the Union need to get on to this at the highest level immediately.
