Worryingly the CWU I don't think have said their were duped. In fact according to the national briefing document at http://www.royalmailchat.co.uk/communit ... 30#p370904" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; which clearly states
So in my estimation far from thinking they have been duped they appear to have wholeheartedly endorse the BTA and seem to be positioning themselves to get it back on track. If it was a Nigerian Scam it looks as though the Nigerians have changed the currency and destination of the "monies kindly being forwarded" and the target is desperately trying to salvage the situation and get as much of the original money into their account because they are relying on it so much.2. The Union reaffirms its commitment to the Business Transformation Agreement – but we recognise we must now seek urgent meetings and a number of written assurances from the company to establish whether or not they intend to honour all elements of the Agreement.

Re: CWU DUPED
It's an impossible position and one the CWU should never have gotten into.
If they admit what the membership already know that BTA is a sham then the would be admitting that not only did they get it badly wrong but that any future agreement made with the employer will be worthless because the CWU is unable to hold them to it anyway.
HQ is desperately trying to find some kind of exit plan or more accurately "on track" plan without losing face and that worries me a great deal because i'm not sure what they will be prepared to agree to in order to hold position.
We could lose even more ground trying to keep this agreement going than we did in the first place.

Re: CWU DUPED
I dont think they were scammed but I think they were very nieve to think that royal mail would honour their parts of the deal.

Which brings us back to one of the original points from 2009 - if we can't trust our employer to honour their part of any deal, how can the CWU negotiate any deal on our behalf?madmartin wrote:I dont think they were scammed but I think they were very nieve to think that royal mail would honour their parts of the deal.
Is it to be an all-out strike until Higson and Greene go?
An all-out strike until the EU admit the folly of postal deregulation and DSA is priced appropriately?
The societies of consumption and squandering of material resources are incompatible with the idea of economic growth and a clean planet.

Yes, please
to avert their own implosion.
The time has come to stop turning the other cheek, time to stop shaking our heads in bitter dismay, time to stop mumbling our angry words.
The time has come for union.

Re: CWU DUPED
It's a tough one but agreements are in place because the employer and employees need something from each other.clashcityrocker wrote: Which brings us back to one of the original points from 2009 - if we can't trust our employer to honour their part of any deal, how can the CWU negotiate any deal on our behalf?
If one side is reneging on their side of the bargain then the only thing the other side can do is withdraw entirely from the bargain surely?
Otherwise it's just give without the take isn't it and the union just ends up looking weak and foolish?

But how do we withdraw from the bargain?fishtank wrote:.

We could stop taking part in any revision activity.............
So no opportunity to make p/t up to f/t?
No 39hr week?
No transformation lump sums?
Should we only deliver up to 3 D2D/week and only if we get a unit payment again?
And lapsing (working all your paid hours) is more P&M 2007 than BTA.
The only muscle we have is to withdraw our labour but to achieve what?
If the aim is to get the BTA back on track it may not have the member's backing.
If the aim is to remove Higson and Moya and DSA it may not have the member's backing, it may not be legal and it may not be sustainable.

Re: CWU DUPED
Thats what I mean, how come royal mail employees know what royal mail are like yet the team who represent us in negotiations dont? If Royal Mail are going to go ahead with compulsory redundancies then why are offices continuing with office revisions? All the time there are threats about compulsory redundancies offices should STOP talking about revisions. Royal Mail are braking the agreement so why are we carrying on with our end of the deal? I'm not saying go on strike but all the time office are doing revisions royal mail are getting what they want. If we stop revisions then they will have to take us seriously.

Re: CWU DUPED
Or we could simply accept that Royal Mail can and will do whatever it wants, whenever it wants and just hope that the CWU can beg for some kind of concessions.
The only problem with that Clash,is that it further weakens the unions credibility and position in the workplace...which further weakens our bargaining position...etc,etc.....ad infinitum.....

Re: CWU DUPED
we all know that the CWU have royally f*cked us with the agreement they were conned into agrreing to by RMG...
its not even like its just affecting delivery staff or just affecting MC staff, or just aftecting back office staff... if anything, all the recent announcements have proven that RM is trying to f*ck everyone at every level apart from the very top...
sadly though we dont have any bargaining strength... as iv seen posted before by a number of people very few people will trust the union to make an agreement that is fair and acceptible... no one will expect RMG to honour any agreement that is made... and if it comes to cutting off, or taking IA... how many will take the risk... it may not happen officially but you know that you will be made to suffer when you go back to work... not to mention that many of us cant take the risk of reduced or lost earnings.. and id hazard a pretty good guess that no one can really handle getting the sack as there are too few jobs available... RMG have us over a barrel... and between the CWU being powerless to do anythign or unwilling to do anything to get things back on track... the government is basically turning a blind eye and quite happilly letting RMG do this to us and getting us in shape for sale...
although i cant see how making us look like a hopeless, profitless heap of Sh*t is meant to help sell us...
the other thing that comes to mind is.. since RM is able to walk over the CWU, is there another union with more "teeth" that RM would recognise and accept as a workers representative union?...

Another union would only be representing the same members.scum_opg wrote:

Another union could only have more "teeth" if those same members had more "teeth".
And what exactly would they do with these teeth?

Re: CWU DUPED
I would like the membership to insist to the National executive that any future agreements are no longer based on the payment of lump sum incentives. These are the one thing in all of the last agreements that have engineered a yes vote. We should be looking at a major overhaul of benefits including basic pay, pension rights, sickness and health benefits, not a measly few quid for 1 year which once paid is spent and gone. A proper pay and benefits deal built in with a fair and reasonable work load backed by proper health and safety initiatives. Not a lot to ask for in the 21st Century.
