driving allowance

I think your right - you have to be driving when the allowance was removed (WF?) I think and it had to be a high top minimum.

some people have been told that if you dont drive for us in the new system then you will not have one of the better jobs, ie. if you drive for us you can have the pick of your choice if you dont then? surely this is blackmail and discrimination? the rep agrees with the management and say the drivers should have first choice, most people dont want to drive the vans and should not be bullied into doing so, where is the loyalty, you could have someone who has just started wanting to drive a van and get first choice of the jobs also quite a few people cant drive, we work at wrexham delivery office is this sort of situation happening elsewhere? wrexham

Thing is with 2 in a Van system you need at least 1 person to drive otherwise the car just stays in the office and no delivery gets done.

If you can, but elect not to, drive then as long as the consequences have been explained to you and the reasons behind it then they are being fair. Another argument is that driving is skill based so RM can side step the seniority rule by getting drivers to pick first.

In this situation I would think that having the correct amount of drivers matched to the vehicles is more important that making sure they have enough walkers. If you have too many slots for drivers then any that are surplus can then choose a walking slot and share the driving. If you have too many walkers for the slots available then you have a real problem. Looking at it logically making sure that they fill the drivers slots first (in seniority order) makes sense and then the walkers slots again in seniority order.

BTW I can drive but have not done the switch over yet so its unlikely I will drive for RM, I am of the opinion at the moment that I will stay as a walker.
