hospital appointments

Post by korky »

mate at work has to have an op next week, 2 days off, + he's already had 1 or 2 off for his problem,
told me today he's had to put to rest days in, should he get paid without using his own holidays?
and no, he isn't turning into a bird

Again it will depend on his sick record if he thinks it's worthwhile to take his holidays instead. If he's got a pretty clean record, then yes take it as sick, you can't be forced to take it as holiday. However, if he's due a stage 3 if he has it off then holidays would be the obvious choice?

Not sure, he would really need to call in sick. And state he wasn't willing to use his holidays for being off sick. And take them as sick days, union advice should also be sought. Suppose they could say it's not sick pay if they were getting something like cosmetic surgery or sommet. He really should get advice on this one.

They can put it down as special leave, I have had this happen about 4/5 times recently for hospital appointments, always been paid even for full days.

The work colleague I job share with had an emergency visit to the dentist with an abscess. Instead of taking a day sick, they told her to work the time back :confused

We thought perhaps it would make their sick records look better?

You can normally ask for special leave A or B. One is paid and ones not. It depends on the manager as to what you get. If you get offered the unpaid then you can ask to work a restday to get the money back.
