HOT WEATHER ANNOUNCEMENT
In my office this morning our total utter clown of a dom read out his weather report and warned us of the following...
1. we were told to plan our route accordingly to the suns movements meaning that if we can possibly start the round in the shade and finish the delivery in the sun when its not at its strongest.. I dont blame anyone for not believing this as i cant believe it myself but its true...
2. also to wear long sleeve shirts and trousers to protect our skin???? yes also true why dont we just wear full scuba diving gear i asked??
3. wear those stupid austrailian style cork hats to protect our face.. when a collegue asked how are we supposed to wear those as well as our cycle helmet the dom replied (and i swear to god this is true) wear the hat under the helmet..... COME ON!!!!!
our dom has been with royal mail 25 years... no wonder our company is in the total state it is in!! TNT must be laughing there heads off.....
Anyone else had any shocking hot weather reports?

I wonder what all these new longer walks are going to be like in the blazing summer?
I bet we are going to see a rise in heat stroke related sickness this year.

Re: HOT WEATHER ANNOUNCEMENT
that really is a f*cking joke...
even if you stay out of the sun and int he shade that doesnt always help....
a few years ago when i was on deliveries i was put on a walk that had a number of secured entry housing blocks (only like 5 floors but still)... anyway the sun was absolutly beating it down... and i get to the first of these blocks thinking that they will be cool inside (temperature wise)... i step inside and its stuffy as hell... had all been recently renovated and new windows fitted in the stairwells... only problem was that the sun was hitting the front of the building where the stairwell was... and the windows while all brand new... didnt open... so by the time i had lugged my pouch up the stairs to the top delivered the mail and got back to the bottom it had taken a good bit out of me... and then it was back into the beating sun to the next door, and then a repeat... so by the time i was at the 10th block i was almost on my hands and knees crawling along becuse i had been sweating so much the back of my shirt was almost see through and it felt like i had very little body fluid (water not blood or anything XXX) and the bottle of water i had in my pouch was ... well not cool and refreshing it was warm and was all plastic tasting... not to mention all the sweat running down my back (that wasnt getting soaked up by my shirt) and into my trousers and boxers... which lead to chafing.. and being in A LOT of pain by the time i finished
i asked other people what was the best way to do the walk when its that sort of weather... and they couldnt tell me... there was no "safe" way to do those sorts of walks.... the other walks where your out on the street (100% of the time) if you want to genuinly follow the instructions from a DOM about delivering in the shade... just suggest you start delivering at 10pm... atleast then the temperature will be manageable in the summer...

Perhaps we should all ask to see our summer time route plan to avoid the nasty sunshine?

Re: HOT WEATHER ANNOUNCEMENT
I have a good idea, lets go back to five am starts out on the streets by seven (According to Royal mail we had more mail in those days than now) Plus bring back second delivery there are more missorts now than there ever was, since we had all this mec mail.

Re: HOT WEATHER ANNOUNCEMENT
I was only saying to my OH earlier today that RM give you all this advice so they're deemed to be a responsible employer. But if they were that responsible, they would ensure we're not out in the sun between 11am and 3pm as is the advice given to the general public. They only say it to cover their backs so if you DO end up ill because of it, they'll wash their hands of it.
If you did everything they say, it would take you longer to do your duty. But will they pay you overtime? No, because "there's less mail in the summer while the kids are off school" so you should have time to do MORE work in the form of summer productivity (aka 12 months of the year lapsing).

Does this rag smell of chloroform to you?

Re: HOT WEATHER ANNOUNCEMENT
What a brilliant idea I know for a fact the public would love that and I seem to remember we were making a healthy profit as well even though the government would take most of it.wally7 wrote:I have a good idea, lets go back to five am starts out on the streets by seven (According to Royal mail we had more mail in those days than now) Plus bring back second delivery there are more missorts now than there ever was, since we had all this mec mail.
